Senior Mechanical Engineer 1 (Nuclear Plant Analysis) - Nuclear
About the Role
This position offers the opportunity to directly apply your knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and power plant engineering. You will prepare or review calculations, evaluations, and technical reports to support client recommendations and reviews, conduct equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection, and engage in system engineering for the design, modification, and analysis of nuclear power plant mechanical systems.
You will interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status, develop engineering proposals and cost estimates, and mentor junior engineering staff on power plant engineering technical tasks. There is potential for travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for meetings and field verification of designs.
This is a hybrid position requiring in-office work 3 days per week.
Responsibilities
- Prepare or review calculations, evaluations, and technical reports to support client recommendations and reviews.
- Conduct equipment sizing, optimization evaluation, and selection in response to client needs.
- Design, modify, and analyze nuclear power plant mechanical systems.
- Interface with clients and project teams to present technical discussions and project status.
- Develop engineering proposals and cost estimates.
- Mentor junior engineering staff on power plant engineering technical tasks.
- Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant sites for meetings and field verification of designs.
- Lead teams in using data, automation, and AI tools to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
- Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
Requirements
- BSME from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program with a strong academic background and interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.
- 5 or more years of experience in the nuclear power industry.
- Experience preparing calculations and/or reports with excellent technical report writing skills.
- Knowledge of the practical application of mechanical engineering and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to project design.
- Strong interest in numerical computations and problem solving.
- Working knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations that apply to mechanical engineering design of nuclear power plants.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- MSME from an ABET-accredited program with a strong academic background.
- PE License.
- Experience leading automation and process-improvement initiatives.
- Additional learning or experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields.

Pay
Compensation range: $84,762 - $129,498. Eligible positions include a base salary or hourly rate, comprehensive benefits, and potential participation in a yearly discretionary bonus.
