We are looking for a fully qualified, career-oriented, mid-to-senior level Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to perform mechanical design of RF and microwave components and equipment, including connectorized products, surface mount, and plug-in products. This role requires innovative skills and proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, Draftsight, and SolidWorks.

About the Role

The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer will work on problems of moderate scope, requiring data analysis and judgment within defined procedures. You will network with senior internal members and external personnel, applying expertise in tolerance analysis, thermal and environmental analysis, and knowledge of various metals, plastics, and elastomers.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical parts for surface-mounted or through-hole insertion.
  • Design mechanical fixtures for Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit (MMIC) packages.
  • Provide mechanical design inputs for PCB and ceramic substrates during the design phase.
  • Create outlines and case styles of models developed by the Electrical Engineering Team.
  • Provide details for Bill of Materials (BOM) of all mechanical components (e.g., carrier plates, fixtures, packing material, fasteners, or other mechanical hardware) for model designers to include in the BOM.
  • Introduce new carrier tapes for SMT products or new packing materials where current designs cannot meet requirements.
  • Update existing outlines, case styles, mechanical component designs, or associated documentation due to design errors, manufacturing process accommodations, sub-contractor requests, or customer requests.
  • Order mechanical parts for prototypes from machine shops or external sources.
  • Understand ISO awareness and participate in internal and external audits.

Expectations and Growth

Within the first 6-12 months, you will:

  • Develop proficiency using PLM (Arena preferred) and ERP tools.
  • Keep basic mechanical engineering knowledge updated and follow defined procedures, including design rules and company procedures (CPs).
  • Demonstrate a full understanding of standard MCL assembly and manufacturing methods.
  • Show expertise in mechanical design standards governed by EIA, IPC, MIL, and other relevant standards.
  • Design or select packing materials for finished products.
  • Produce high-quality output in specific job functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience OR Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Preferred specialization in Mechanical Design or Test Fixture Design.

Skills

  • Hands-on experience with design and drafting using CAD software (AutoCAD, Draftsight, SolidWorks).
  • CAD-assisted FEM for thermal and environmental analysis (highly preferred).
  • Experience with IC device clamping for RF/DC test, mechanical compression tolerancing and analysis, and test fixture design.
  • Basic understanding of connectorized products, surface mount products, and printed circuit board manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to articulate responses to drawing requests and job-related queries.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs, Adobe Acrobat, and SAP (preferred).

  • Regularly required to talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to operate a computer keyboard.
  • Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
