Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Aurora is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer for the Compute Product Engineering team within the HPE (Hardware Product Engineering) group. The role involves supporting the development of the next-generation Aurora Driver Module, integrating our primary, in-house developed computer along with various Electronic Control Units (ECUs) into an assembly ready for installation on manufacturing lines of our partner Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

Responsibilities

• Support the development of the Aurora Driver Module, integrating our primary, in-house developed computer along with various Electronic Control Units (ECUs) into an assembly ready for installation on manufacturing lines of our partner OEMs.
• Own both individual module design and their integration into the vehicle architecture from concept through production, driving robust, manufacturable designs for compute hardware deployed in safety-critical environments.
• Support and sustain products driving autonomously on roads today.

Requirements

• BS / MS in Mechanical Engineering and 4+ years of industry experience in Mechanical Engineering.
• Proficient in CAD design & 2D drawing creation using GD&T, Catia 3DX preferred.
• Prior experience creating mechanical parts that interface with electrical components (PCBAs, Sensors, etc.).
• Exposure to component design for high volume manufacturing processes like injection molding, diecasting, and stamping.
• Exposure to designing for harsh environments including Shock/Vibration and temperature cycling with long term durability.
• Experience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of hardware systems.
• Strong presentation and documentation skills for participating in critical design decisions.
• Willingness to travel within the US and/or internationally 3-4 times a year.

Qualifications

• Experience with automotive ECUs or high-performance compute systems and integration into vehicles.
• Experience with high power, high thermal density, and high speed electronics (for example, server / networking design, avionics design, etc.) and deep understanding of their integration challenges.
• Background in autonomous vehicles, robotics, and/or automotive vehicle design.

Benefits

The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $217,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future. The successful candidate will also be eligible for an annual bonus, equity compensation, and benefits.

Schedule

Working at Aurora, employees are expected to be in the office at least 3 days per week. Aurora operates in a hybrid work environment.

Pay

For roles based in Mountain View, CA, the salary range for this position is $150,000 - $217,000 per year. Aurora’s pay ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, the successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on factors including job-related skills, experience, qualifications, relevant education or training, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.
