Senior Material Handler - First Shift

Shift: 8am–5pm, Monday – Friday

About the role

As part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific BioServices team in Rockville, MD, you will support operations by storing and shipping biological specimens, samples, clinical agents, and materials at temperatures ranging from ambient to -196 °C, including potentially hazardous materials.

Responsibilities

• Receive incoming raw materials and facilitate movement of materials—including hazardous materials—across the site.
• Maintain accurate inventory through receipts, adjustments, and cycle counts.
• Handle materials efficiently and flawlessly while strictly adhering to safety guidelines and procedures.
• Apply effective techniques to accurately receive, store, and distribute materials.
• Fulfill customer orders with speed and accuracy to maintain inventory control.
• Determine and resolve discrepancies or issues with materials, collaborating with team members as needed.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to optimize material handling processes.
• Transport materials within the facility using material handling equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks).
• Maintain accurate inventory records and perform regular cycle counts.
• Assist in process improvements to optimize material handling operations.
• Strictly adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe work environment.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to determine material needs and ensure timely delivery.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2+ years of warehouse or inventory management experience.
• Proven experience in material handling in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional attention to detail and ability to accurately track inventory.
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with team members.
• Ability to operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
• Able to work independently, set priorities, and work as part of a team.
• Able to lift and carry 50 lbs and push up to 70 lbs.
• Able to work in a cold environment with exposure to dry ice, liquid nitrogen cryogenics, hazardous and infectious agents, and marked changes in temperature.
• Must use personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to safety protocols, including periodic work in walk-in freezers and refrigerators for up to 5 hours per day.

Pay

Hourly pay range: $18.54–$27.81 (Maryland).
