About the role

The Senior Master HVAC Technician installs, modifies, and repairs refrigeration systems including hermetic, semi-hermetic, screw, scroll, and centrifugal units up to 1100 tons; air conditioning; VAV and ventilation; VRF systems; CRAC units; geo-thermal; reversible chillers; air and water-cooled chillers; process coolers; ice machines; evaporative cooling; air compressing and related control systems, including pneumatic, DDC, and building control systems equipment.

This role involves advanced installation tasks such as assembly, testing, calibrating, and adjusting temperature and environmental control systems. The technician will also install new or repaired components, perform complex modifications, and maintain specialized equipment like DOAS, MAU, and Pool Pak systems. Supervision of lower-level technicians, general maintenance workers, and maintenance trade helpers is required.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and repair various refrigerant systems including Variable Refrigerant Flow Systems, Chillers, Reversible Chillers, and CRAC Units
  • Cut and bend tubing, cut and thread pipe, and join tubing or pipes to refrigerating units
  • Test joints and connections in refrigerant piping for leaks using leak detectors and vacuum pumps
  • Test and verify proper operation of components, connecting motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and ventilation fans
  • Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring
  • Add/remove Freon to refrigerant systems to achieve proper subcooling and superheat
  • Observe pressure and vacuum gauges and adjust controls to ensure proper operation
  • Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure them in place
  • Install, repair, and service air conditioners up to 1100 tons cooling capacity in various facilities
  • Prepare work orders and cost materials estimates
  • Assist in training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques
  • Supervise and lead lower-level workers
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Skills

  • Knowledge and proficiency in standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in HVAC troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance
  • Operating equipment for installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC systems
  • Planning and managing projects, preparing and maintaining accurate records
  • Handling hazardous materials safely
  • Interpreting data from indoor air monitoring equipment
  • Understanding standards for design and construction, air conditioning and heating codes, and refrigerant handling and disposal
  • Adaptability and flexibility in work situations
  • Practicing workplace safety, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent amounts of technical training and experience
  • 15+ years of advanced experience in maintenance, repair, installation, and operation of commercial/industrial HVAC systems
  • Experience with inspection, disassembly, assembly, replacement, and repair of HVAC systems and components
  • Experience in installing, calibrating, troubleshooting, and replacing control systems
  • EPA Universal Refrigeration License
  • Valid driver’s license compliant with REAL ID Act or willingness to obtain one
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check
  • Regular, dependable attendance
  • Availability for overtime, evenings, and weekends
  • US citizenship to obtain and maintain access to military installations

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted
  • Use of hands, reaching with hands and arms, talking, and walking
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, or stooping
  • Climbing ladders and entering confined spaces
  • Working both indoors and outdoors in various temperatures and weather conditions

Pay

Total compensation package of $81.93 per hour, consisting of $66.68 per hour plus $15.25 per hour in fringe benefits used towards insurance and 401k.
