Senior Marine Pipe Welder
About the role
Join Serco’s growing Sea Enterprise III team supporting U.S. Naval ship modernization programs. As a Senior Marine Pipe Welder, you will work on technically challenging shipboard projects that directly impact fleet readiness, fabricating and repairing critical piping systems aboard U.S. Navy vessels.
Responsibilities
- Interpret NAVSEA specifications, blueprints, fabrication drawings, work packages, process sheets, and technical manuals.
- Fabricate, fit, modify, repair, and install carbon steel, stainless steel, copper-nickel, aluminum, and specialty piping systems aboard U.S. Navy vessels.
- Perform high-quality welding using GTAW (TIG), FCAW (Flux Core), SMAW (Stick), and GMAW (MIG) processes in accordance with NAVSEA standards, approved WPSs, and Serco procedures.
- Install and maintain MAF Lokring mechanical fittings in accordance with manufacturer specifications and Navy technical requirements.
- Perform pipe preparation, fit-up, alignment, welding, inspection, hydrostatic test support, thermal cutting, grinding, and system restoration.
- Fabricate and install pipe supports, hangers, penetrations, foundations, cable collars, and miscellaneous shipboard hardware.
- Support production leadership by troubleshooting technical issues and ensuring quality workmanship.
- Mentor junior welders, assign work, and support production planning and quality assurance.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum of 8 years of shipboard pipe welding or related industrial welding experience.
- Demonstrated proficiency performing GTAW (TIG) and FCAW (Flux Core) welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and shipboard piping systems.
- Experience installing MAF Lokring fittings or equivalent mechanical piping systems.
- Familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Items and shipboard quality requirements.
- Ability to become respirator qualified, wear required PPE, provide trade tools, and pass Serco weld qualification testing.
- Ability to obtain shipyard access (DBIDS/NAVSTA), pass a background investigation and drug screening.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, lift up to 50 pounds, and travel up to 10%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Clearance.
- Current NAVSEA, AWS, or equivalent certifications in GTAW (TIG), FCAW (Flux Core), SMAW, and/or GMAW.
- MAF Lokring certification or documented installation experience.
- Experience supporting U.S. Navy ship modernization, repair, ISRA, DSRA, PSA, or new construction.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Maritime Certification.
- Leadership experience supervising or mentoring pipe welders and pipefitters.
- Experience with CuNi, stainless steel, carbon steel, and aluminum piping systems.
- Proficiency in blueprint and isometric drawing interpretation.
- Experience with hydrostatic testing and pressure system restoration.
- Knowledge of NAVSEA Standard Item compliance.
