About the role

The Senior Manufacturing Test Engineer plays a crucial role in ensuring Oura products are designed for robust, scalable, and cost-effective testing. This role involves partnering with various teams to define test requirements, develop and maintain test software, and support contract manufacturers.

Responsibilities

  • Drive early and ongoing manufacturing involvement to ensure products are designed for robust, scalable, and cost-effective testing.
  • Partner with Hardware, Systems, and Product teams to define test requirements aligned to product specifications and quality targets.
  • Incorporate DFMEA / PFMEA, Engineering Specifications, and test coverage analysis into product design.
  • Own test engineering across all phases: POC/Proto/EVT/DVT/PVT, ramp, and mass production.
  • Provide hands-on production support for complex test issues, yield excursions, and systemic failures.
  • Lead test readiness reviews and production gate decisions with Operations and CM partners.
  • Architect, design, and deploy manufacturing test stations and processes.
  • Develop and maintain test software and automation in Python, C, C++, Rust including:
    • Instrument control
    • Data acquisition and logging
    • Test sequencing and error handling
    • Factory dashboards and analytics hooks
  • Drive modular, scalable, and maintainable test software frameworks suitable for high-volume manufacturing.
  • Apply statistical tools such as GR&R, SPC, Cp/Cpk, correlation analysis, and DOE.
  • Ensure test processes and fixtures meet capability, repeatability, and scalability requirements.
  • Analyze production data to identify trends, root causes, and improvement opportunities.
  • Lead failure analysis efforts across test stations, products, and manufacturing processes.
  • Close test gaps and correlation issues across internal labs and external factories.
  • Improve product quality, yield, and cost through systematic test optimization.
  • Act as the primary technical interface to Contract Manufacturers and test equipment vendors.
  • Drive CM test development, qualification, deployment, and sustaining.
  • Lead issue resolution related to tester hardware, software, fixtures, and factory execution.
  • Provide technical direction, training, and mentorship to CM teams and automation suppliers.
  • Collaborate closely with Hardware, Firmware, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, and Program teams.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise test engineering status updates to leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Influence decisions through data, technical depth, and operational insight.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, test engineering, or automation (assembly, inspection, test station design, or factory deployment).
  • Hands-on experience developing manufacturing test software in Python, C, C++, Rust.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Experience supporting development builds and mass production with global manufacturing partners.
  • Willingness to travel 30–50% across domestic and international factory sites.
  • Experience working with wearables, consumer electronics, sensors, or embedded systems.
  • Strong background in test station qualification and correlation (calibration, GR&R, Cp/Cpk, DOE).
  • Experience working cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, systems, quality, and operations teams.
  • Familiarity with optical, RF, or semiconductor-based test methodologies.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a global, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across cultures and time zones.

Qualifications

Pay

Region 1 (San Francisco): $162,000 - $203,000
Region 2 (San Diego): $150,000 - $187,000

Schedule

This is a hybrid position that requires 3 days a week in either our San Francisco or San Diego office.
