Senior Manufacturing Technical Advisor

The Advanced Technologies (AT) group focuses on researching, designing, and developing innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems.
Responsibilities
- Analyze technical documents such as drawings, models, and specifications to develop accurate methods and processes needed in manufacturing to expand our capabilities, while helping to reduce overall time, labor, and material costs.
- Collaborate with engineering, machinists, and purchasing teams to identify the most efficient processes and materials.
- Assist the Machine Shop Coordinator to assess project feasibility, support make/buy decisions and ensure alignment with shop capabilities.
- Communicate with project teams to clarify requirements and address technical inquiries.
Requirements
- A minimum of an associate degree in a technical field plus twelve (12) years of relevant experience OR a high school diploma / equivalent plus fifteen (15) years of relevant experience is required.
- Strong knowledge and experience with machining (conventional and CNC/CAM), fitting/welding, and assembly processes involving materials such as stainless steel, Al-bronze, nickel alloys, zirconium, etc.
- Strong knowledge and experience with EDM, Plunge EDM, and/or Sinker EDMs.
- Proficient in metrology, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T), and blueprint reading.
- Proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling software, including PDM, as well as programming tool paths using Mastercam.
- Demonstrated ability in project planning and execution, including developing and improving processes and procedures.
- General knowledge of project engineering activities, such as task planning and scheduling.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise, and accurate information.
- Strong team player with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment while also working independently when required.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.
Qualifications

Pay
The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $41.35 and $65.38 per hour. The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
Schedule
This role is classified as part-time, with predetermined hours set collaboratively by the selected candidate and management. While the role has pre-set hours, the schedule may expand if required by business operations.
Location
The position will be in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office.
