About the team

Anduril is fielding the next generation of Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) to tackle the extremely challenging industry demands of seabed exploration. Anduril has brought to the market a unique, ultra-long-range, full-ocean-depth platform, and a completely refreshed maritime vehicle and flexible manufacturing architecture that scales from "large" to "extra-large" vehicle sizes. Today, Anduril is executing on multi-million-dollar contracts while simultaneously performing Robot-as-a-Service (RaaS) AUV operations.

About the job

We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to own the recertification and repair operation for our Dive-LD Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) in Quonset, RI. In this role, you will be the process owner for vehicles and major assemblies returning from the field for diagnosis, repair, and recertification, as well as for scheduled refurbishment and overhaul of fielded assets. You will own the repair process from intake through recert test, partner with Design and Sustaining Engineering to close the loop on field failures, and stand up the routings, work instructions, tooling, and test flows needed to scale a depot-level operation alongside a still-maturing production line.

What you'll do

  • Own the end-to-end manufacturing process for recertification, repair, and refurbishment/overhaul of returned AUVs and major subassemblies
  • Lead intake and disposition of field returns: triage incoming units, drive failure analysis with Quality and Design Engineering, and partner with the Material Review Board (MRB) to disposition non-conforming hardware quickly and traceably
  • Develop and maintain repair routings, work instructions, tooling, and inspection criteria specific to the recert/repair line — distinct from new-build flows
  • Define and own the recertification test flow that gates a repaired or overhauled vehicle's return to service, in partnership with Test Engineering and Quality
  • Close the feedback loop to Design and Sustaining Engineering: turn field failure data into prioritized design changes, ECRs, and process improvements
  • Stand up planning, scheduling, and material flows for refurb/overhaul cycles, coordinating with Supply Chain on long-lead spares and obsolescence
  • Apply Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to reduce turnaround time, scrap, and rework on the recert/repair line
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including Design, Quality, Supply Chain, Test, and Field Service, to ensure repaired hardware meets the same standards as new production
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and manufacturing technicians working the recert/repair line
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and industry trends in depot operations, sustainment, and reliability engineering to drive innovation in how we keep the fleet ready

Required qualifications

  • Degree in a technical field such as engineering, math, or a hard science
  • 5+ years of experience in a relevant field, preferably manufacturing or design of electromechanical hardware
  • Demonstrated ability to creatively deliver electromechanical hardware in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills with an expertise in manufacturing
  • Personal experience physically manufacturing hardware via any means (machining, fabrication, soldering, assembly, etc.) Work on personal or extracurricular projects is a plus
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct experience standing up or running a recertification, repair, refurbishment, or depot-level operation for complex electromechanical systems
  • Experience leading field return / RMA processes — intake, triage, failure analysis, and disposition of returned hardware
  • Experience developing repair-specific routings, work instructions, and recertification test flows distinct from new-build production
  • Familiarity with sustainment engineering practices: reliability data analysis, root cause / corrective action (RCCA), and closing the loop from field failures back to design
  • Experience coordinating with Field Service or customer support teams on returned assets and warranty repair programs
  • Experience in maritime robotics (AUVs, UUVs, USVs, subsea sensors)
  • Experience working with electrical systems up to 400VDc
  • Prior experience working with JIRA, Siemens NX, Teamcenter (PLM), or Oracle (ERP) or equivalents
  • A strong passion manufacturing and thirst for continuous improvement
  • Experience with large scale high mix manufacturing at different stages of product maturity
