Senior Manufacturing Engineer - Controls

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Determine best methods for manufacturing products with maximum efficiency
  • Create and edit PLC, PMC, and TP programs
  • Support electrical and PLC, PMC, and TP program related problems
  • Design and modify electrical schematics for special machine modifications
  • Design, build, create drawings for and assemble automation solutions and equipment
  • Support production and assembly with building, wiring and testing of custom machines and equipment
  • Develop and test optional tooling for work holding, fixturing, and material presentation
  • Assist with basic, onsite and remote, support to production technicians
  • Execute, control, and oversee modifications to control systems
  • Prepare diagrams and control panel layouts
  • Provide support for maintenance technicians to ensure the functionality of all mechanical equipment and machinery to support the production processes
  • Design production layouts, select and optimize equipment, and develop new manufacturing processes that represent the most competitive cost alternative while maintaining acceptable quality levels
  • Analyze and improve current manufacturing processes to increase efficiency and reduce production costs
  • Implement safety and quality control measures to ensure a safe and consistent product
  • Design, develop, and test mechanical components, machines, and equipment
  • Specifies electrical components for machines, equipment, and control systems
  • Creates and tests methods and specifications that go into the production of mechanical devices
  • Provide training and support to plant personnel on new equipment and processes

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical understanding for troubleshooting/designing manufacturing equipment
  • Extensive experience with 3D CAD design
  • Experience with CNC, punch presses, fiber lasers, robots, PLC, and welding
  • Equipment programming including lasers, robots, sensors and PLC's preferable
  • Working Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Six Sigma principles
  • Experience with facility layout, process design, PFMEA, and DOE
  • Able to communicate at all levels from the shop floor to Executive level to justify strategies and implement them effectively
  • Able to lead cross-functional teams to project completion
  • Effective problem solver, with ability to utilize analytical techniques to resolve conceptual issues
  • Able to develop creative solutions that will result in technology that can provide a technological edge over competition
  • Able to travel 10% of the time

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering
  • 10+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience designing equipment/tooling/fixtures
  • Experience with Microsoft office and AutoCAD
  • Experience and understanding of MRP systems a plus

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Experience designing tooling, fixturing and specifying the correct equipment for manufacturing processes
  • Experience with DFA, FMEA, DOE lean manufacturing and Six Sigma tools
  • Ability to work well under compressed time constraints
  • Project management skills
