About the role
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer will improve manufacturing processes for advanced ceramic components. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role collaborates with production, quality, and engineering teams to ensure efficient, high-quality production that meets stringent aerospace standards. The ideal candidate has expertise in high-throughput casting or ceramics manufacturing, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for advancing aerospace technology.
Responsibilities
- Develop, evaluate, and optimize complex manufacturing processes to improve yield, reduce defects, and minimize cycle times per quality control standards.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to production teams, troubleshooting process issues and implementing corrective actions to ensure consistent quality and throughput.
- Lead initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other methodologies to enhance process efficiency and reduce waste.
- Specify, evaluate, and maintain manufacturing equipment and tooling, ensuring optimal production performance and safety.
- Create, oversee, and maintain detailed process SOP documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, and technical reports, using tools like Microsoft Office Suite and ERP systems (e.g., Oracle).
- Train as needed per training requirements.
- Collaborate with R&D, Quality, and Production teams to support new product introductions and process scale-up.
- Work with the Quality team to ensure processes comply with Quality Management System (QMS) requirements, customer specifications, and aerospace standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP).
- Ensure processes adhere to safety standards, including proper handling of hazardous materials (e.g., ceramic powders, liquid resins) and conducting risk assessments.
Requirements
- B.S in Mechanical, Materials, Ceramics, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field. Will accept applicants with appropriate experience and skills but no degree.
- 8+ years’ hands-on experience in injection molding, composite/ceramics manufacturing environment or 5+ years’ experience in manufacturing or related applicable industry.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Siemens NX, AutoCAD) for designing tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
- Experience working in a high-throughput environment to solve manufacturing quality issues using statistical data that contribute to product defects.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, Kanban, and 5S.
- Experience with SPC (statistical process control) and DOE (Design of Experiments) methodologies.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present technical data to stakeholders.
- Ability to stand or walk for up to 8 hours per day, including travel up and down stairs.
- Ability to work for extended periods using a computer screen.
- Ability to wear required PPE, which may include safety glasses, safety shoes, gloves, and lab coats, with exposure to ceramic powders and high-temperature equipment.
Preferred Skills
- Expertise in composites, injection molding, castings, or general ceramics for aerospace turbomachinery.
- Strong knowledge of ceramics manufacturing processes, including slurry preparation, material control, and dimensional controls.
- Experience with aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, NADCAP) and regulatory requirements.

Pay
$105,000–$160,000
Candidates must pass a pre-employment background check and drug test.
