About the role
GiveDirectly has crossed $1B in cash delivered to people living in poverty, and we’re building the finance function to match that scale. If you’ve sharpened your strategic and analytical toolkit in a demanding environment and you’re ready to point it at something that matters, this role was designed for you.
You will partner directly with the Chief Financial Officer and senior leadership to raise the quality of financial decision-making across the organization — improving planning rigor, sharpening resource allocation, and building the systems and analytical infrastructure that GiveDirectly needs as it scales. This is a high-leverage role: the work you do here shapes how hundreds of millions of dollars flow to people who need it most.
What we’re looking for
- A structured problem-solver with 5–8 years of experience in a top-tier consulting, investment banking, private equity, or similarly rigorous environment.
- Hightly analytical — you use data to generate insights and drive decisions.
- A clear, direct communicator — you cut through complexity and influence senior stakeholders with concise, well-structured thinking.
- Technically fluent — you have exceptional skills with spreadsheets and dashboards, and you are excited to apply AI and automation to real analytical problems.
- High ownership, low ego — you take responsibility for outcomes, prioritize ruthlessly, and follow through.
- Intellectual curiosity and comfort with ambiguity — you enjoy working on problems that don’t have a clean answer yet, and you bring genuine intellectual energy to questions about resource allocation and organizational scale.
- Systems-minded — you spot inefficiencies quickly and design processes, tools, or workflows that make teams run better at scale.
- Motivated by impact — You are ready to apply the full weight of your strategic and analytical skills to an organization where better financial decisions translate directly into more cash reaching more people living in poverty. You understand the evidence behind direct cash transfers and find that evidence compelling.
What you’ll do
- Drive financial planning across GiveDirectly
- Own and drive global budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning processes, in partnership with finance business partners and programmatic staff. Translate organizational priorities into financial plans, support resource allocation decisions, and improve visibility into financial performance and tradeoffs across teams.
- Build smarter strategic finance systems and workflows
- Improve the tools and processes behind budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. Reduce manual work and improve systems that help GiveDirectly make faster, better decisions as it grows. Identify practical opportunities to use AI and automation to improve financial analysis, reporting, and planning workflows.
- Lead ad hoc financial analytics
- Conduct financial analyses across Programs, Growth, Product, and Shared Services to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Support cross-functional initiatives
- Support initiatives such as cost-efficiency efforts, resource allocation analyses, and scenario planning. Structure ambiguous problems, align stakeholders, and deliver clear insights.
- Act as a trusted partner to leadership
- Help leaders in the organization identify and answer high-impact financial questions.
Compensation
- Base Salary: $115,000
- Bonus at Target Performance: 10% (~$11,500, with potential for upside. For reference, with the organization's current performance multiplier, this amount would be $13,455 in 2025)
- Estimated Total Compensation at Target: $126,500+
- Annual Benefits Stipend: $21,393
