Senior Manager, Project Development

About the role
The Senior Manager, Project Development will assist in business development for specific eastern U.S. projects, covering all phases of solar and energy storage project development, including identification, evaluation, realization, and M&A. This role involves collaboration with the local team and support of a Project Development leader, with up to 50% travel expected.
Responsibilities
- Assist in planning and executing business development opportunities from identification through completion.
- Identify and secure renewable power customers and/or transactions, managing the pipeline of prospects.
- Work with Senior Management to develop business opportunities for acquiring or developing new power facilities in attractive U.S. and/or international markets.
- Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary team of internal and external resources to ensure project viability through thorough analysis and project management.
- Participate in project due diligence as appropriate.
- Serve as liaison between project development and financial analysis teams to ensure proper analysis of deal structure, economic, and tax assumptions.
- Establish detailed schedules for tasks and milestones, monitor progress, and prepare routine reports.
- Prepare presentations for Senior Management as requested.
- Develop and maintain relationships with U.S. and international industry contacts, including key business and government customers.
- Obtain supporting data, including competitive intelligence on market opportunities for new projects.
- Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, regulatory/financial incentives, power pricing, and structured financing transactions.
- Prepare project budgets and assist in budget reviews.
- Understand permitting requirements and negotiate/obtain necessary development permits (environmental, local, state, and federal).
- Negotiate and secure interconnection agreements with utilities across different markets.
- Collaborate with internal teams (project finance, engineering, project management, procurement, and legal) to negotiate contract terms.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and business ethics codes.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Development.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in renewable energy development, particularly solar PV, power projects in the U.S., business development, project development, marketing, or comparable experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Business, or a similar discipline.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Experience working in a commercial negotiation environment with strong commercial management, negotiation, and influencing skills.
- Experience managing the solar energy development process.
- Intimate knowledge of the renewable energy power market and its dynamics, including staying current with technologies, regulations, and trends.
- Proven track record of closing renewable energy deals.
- Entrepreneurial expertise and general management skills acquired through leadership positions in the solar and renewable energy industry.
- Strong prioritization, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to adapt quickly to new tasks and circumstances.
- Entrepreneurial attitude and diplomatic approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Pay
$165,000 - $185,000 salary
