Senior Manager, Platform Engineering (Global Payment Network)

You will be a key engineering leader driving the success and modernization of the PULSE network—one of the nation’s leading debit/ATM networks. Acquired by Discover and now a vital part of Capital One’s expanding payments ecosystem, PULSE connects more than 4,400 financial institutions and processes billions of secure, low-latency transactions annually.
Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a high-performing engineering team, cultivating a supportive environment grounded in continuous improvement, psychological safety, and accountability.
- Define performance metrics (KPIs), perform regular reviews, and champion the professional development and career progression of all team members.
- Oversee the development, operation, and modernization of high-volume transaction processing applications, specifically those critical to the 24x7 HPE NonStop payment switching infrastructure.
- Spearhead the migration of highly resilient, on-premises HPE NonStop switching and authorization systems to a cloud-native, low-latency microservices architecture on AWS.
- Maintain deep technical engagement: set robust engineering standards, deliver high-quality design and code critiques, and occasionally contribute code to resolve complex, strategic challenges.
- Collaborate strategically with Product Management, Cyber Security, and Enterprise Architecture teams to ensure the delivery of a secure and frictionless payment experience for millions of users.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent certification
- At least 4 years of experience with infrastructure platforms
- At least 4 years of people management experience
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years experience leading or supporting mission-critical payment platforms hosted on HPE NonStop (Tandem) systems
- 2+ years experience migrating large-scale, mission-critical workloads from HPE NonStop to a cloud-native architecture on AWS, leveraging infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
- 3+ years experience designing and implementing modern CI/CD pipelines and automated testing strategies (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, SonarQube).
- 3+ years experience designing, building, and operating high-throughput, fault-tolerant distributed systems and modern microservices architectures
- Familiarity with container orchestration tools, including Kubernetes and Docker
- Background in Payments Processing or Financial Technology, specifically in high-throughput environments (Debit, ATM, Credit, or ACH networks)
- In-depth knowledge of payment messaging standards, including ISO 8583 and ISO 20022

Pay
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location.
- Houston, TX: $182,500 - $208,300
- McLean, VA: $200,700 - $229,100
- Richmond, VA: $182,500 - $208,300
- Riverwoods, IL: $182,500 - $208,300
