senior manager of development Job Description HANA Center (HANA) is a Chicago-area non-profit organization working to meet the critical needs of Korean, Asian American, and multiethnic immigrant communities and build power toward systemic change. HANA has offices in Chicago and Prospect Heights, Illinois. HANA engages a primarily low-income, limited-English proficient community, prioritizing community members who have been historically marginalized and have not had access to resources, including older adults, youth of color, women, undocumented families, survivors of gender-based violence, LGBTQ+ individuals, and intercountry adoptees. Currently, HANA engages 16,000 community members annually in the City of Chicago and northwest suburbs. Key programs include immigration services, crisis intervention and domestic violence assistance, case management, workforce development, health education and screenings, ESL tutoring, citizenship and technology classes, public benefits assistance, pro-bono legal services, housing services, senior services, youth leadership development, community organizing, and civic engagement. Position Summary HANA’s Senior Manager of Development is a key member of HANA’s leadership team. The Senior Manager provides deep understanding and experience in fundraising campaigns, donor engagement strategies, and effective communications to ensure HANA has the resources necessary to support its programs and organizing campaigns. The Senior Manager works in close coordination with HANA’s Executive Director to develop and execute annual fundraising and communications plans to clearly communicate HANA's mission and impact, engage stakeholders, and grow support. A successful Senior Manager provides strategic thinking and critical support, thus enabling the organization to meet its mission and build the power of the community. Major Responsibilities: Directly supervise and regularly provide guidance for development and communications staff and internsCo-develop, implement, and evaluate an institutional and individual donor cultivation strategy with the Executive DirectorLead institutional fundraising including grant research, prospecting, proposal writing, and reportingDevelop and grow an individual donor strategy, including gift recognition programsCultivate and build relationships with institutional and individual donorsLead fundraising events including HANA’s annual MODU Gala, end of the year holiday donations, and other donor stewardship and cultivation eventsSupport Communications Manager to develop, implement, and evaluate an annual communications planSupervise external communications including social media, paid and earned media, e-blasts, direct mail, and additional ways to increase public awareness about HANA and grow HANA’s base and membershipWork closely with HANA’s Team Leads and Senior Management Team to collect information for proposals and reportsOversee and manage fundraising database and tracking systems, ensuring data entry is accurate and comprehensiveAttend and participate in community meetings and other activities as neededSpeak publicly on behalf of HANA as neededParticipate in and complete all required trainingsOther duties as assigned Key Qualifications: Demonstrated commitment to immigrant rights and social, racial, and economic justiceA belief in communities' ability to support each other, organize, and achieve desired goals togetherPreferred experience working with community-based organizations, especially those focused on issues related to Korean American, Asian American, immigrant communities and/or social, economic, and racial justiceAt least 4 years of relevant professional experience required, including 2+ years of management experience, preferably in a non-profit organization, foundation, or government settingExceptional people management skills with at least 2 years of experience supervising staff; proven ability to set goals, delegate responsibilities, and manage staff performance, train and develop cross-functional teams, coach and inspire the leadership capacity of team members, and foster a healthy organizational culture with a sense of community and prideInnovative approach, strategic thinking, solution-oriented and analytical problem-solving skills; ability to adapt as needed, self-manage, and prioritize between and manage multiple demandsExceptional communicator and ability to exercise tact and diplomacy in a wide range of organizational, partnership, and public settings; demonstrated strength in managing and resolving conflictExcellence designing and leading high stakes, fast-paced projects to completion; ability to replicate, expand, and deepen the impact of organizational initiativesPrior experience with EveryAction or comparable donor management softwareProficiency in using design tools such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite is an assetValid driver’s license, access to a car, and ability to travel to both HANA offices and for events as neededFlexibility to work evenings and weekendsAbility to travel and participate in national campaigns, convenings, and conferencesBilingual in Korean, both verbal and written, is an asset Reports To: Executive Director Compensation: This is a full-time position with a competitive salary range of $65,000-$80,000 and benefits that include paid leave, paid sick leave, health, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, life, and 401K.
