About the Role
Lead a DevOps team at Natera, a global leader in precision medicine and genomics testing. Work with ultra-large data sets (up to petabyte scale), cutting-edge cloud technologies, and medical diagnostics applications to deliver reliable, high-performance data, cloud, and automation systems that support Natera's Lab Operations, Genetic Counselor, and Lab Director teams—ultimately impacting patient medical outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Leadership
- Lead a DevOps team to develop, test, deploy, maintain, and update data platforms, cloud platforms, automation systems, and analytics systems.
- Manage the team to ensure timely and efficient delivery of software products with robust functionality.
- Train and coach team members on new technologies, procedures, and best practices.
- Create and maintain operational visibility (e.g., workload, productivity) of the DevOps team.
- Technical
- Translate business needs and project requirements into technical specifications and implementation plans.
- Collaborate with DSPE leadership to create system architecture and infrastructure design documents.
- Maintain and optimize infrastructure performance, monitoring key metrics (network I/O, disk I/O, memory, compute).
- Contribute to development, testing, deployment, validation, maintenance, and updates of systems.
- Quality, Compliance, and Documentation
- Improve and enforce procedures for efficiency, quality, and compliance.
- Lead the creation and maintenance of technical documentation (design specs, V&V protocols/reports, deployment records, user guides).
- Develop training materials and contribute to training activities for DevOps-owned tools and systems.
- Cross-Functional
- Engage proactively with engineering and operational stakeholders to align infrastructure roadmaps and resolve dependencies.
- Represent the DSPE DevOps team in stakeholder meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred).
- Minimum 10 years of relevant industry experience (8 years with a Master’s, 4 years with a Doctorate).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a highly regulated environment (e.g., CLIA and/or FDA-compliant settings).
- Minimum 3 years of management experience leading a DevOps or software development team.
- Experience designing, delivering, and maintaining custom software tools/systems in production environments (preferably high-throughput).
- Experience creating software design specifications, verification/validation documents, and user manuals.
Skills
- Excellent Python programming skills with cloud application or automation system development experience.
- Proficiency with RDBMS (PostgreSQL/MySQL) and production database-based application development.
- Working knowledge of optimizing system architecture for performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Proficiency in system performance evaluation and understanding of RAM, disk I/O, and network I/O impacts.
- Proficiency with AWS and experience developing production software using AWS services.
- Proficiency in SDLC and software development/testing methodologies.
- Strong Linux command-line skills and Linux application development experience.
- Experience with genomics and bioinformatics technologies, including genomics data (FASTQ, BAM, VCF files).
- Proficiency in Git workflow and version control systems (GitHub/GitLab).
- Experience developing automation solutions.
- Preferred: IaC skills (CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong documentation practices and coding style.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and integrity.
- Collaborative team player.
Pay
Remote USA: $151,000—$188,700 USD. Actual compensation is based on factors such as skill set, experience, certifications, and location.
