Senior Manager Microbiology Applications - West
About the Role
As a Manager, Clinical Applications, you will lead a team of Clinical Application Specialists across the Western U.S. region, providing both people leadership and technical oversight to drive the successful adoption and optimization of Waters Advanced Diagnostics solutions. Serving as the regional clinical and technical leader, you will support customers throughout the implementation lifecycle, including customer readiness, instrument installation, validation, verification, training, and go-live activities. In addition, you will partner closely with Sales Leadership and commercial teams to provide clinical consultation, support strategic opportunities, and serve as a subject matter expert during pre-sales discussions. Through strong leadership, customer engagement, and cross-functional collaboration, you will drive customer success, operational excellence, regional growth, and long-term business outcomes.
This field-based role can be based anywhere within the Western U.S. region, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming, and requires regular travel (approximately 50% to 75%) across the Western United States to support customers, team members, and business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of Applications Specialists in reaching business targets.
- Monitor team performance and feedback metrics.
- Coordinate customer engagement strategies to strengthen customer partnerships.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of regional sales objectives, pipeline opportunities, and business priorities.
- Ensure Applications resources and field activities are aligned to support achievement of regional revenue goals.
- Participate in strategic opportunity reviews and provide clinical expertise to strengthen competitive positioning and customer confidence.
- Collaborate with Commercial Leadership to prioritize Applications support based on business impact and customer needs.
- Guide the team in identifying customer needs and BD solution opportunities.
- Own and oversee field-based clinical application activities across assigned regions.
- Ensure effective post-implementation follow-up and customer adoption strategies following go-live events.
- Drive customer retention through proactive engagement, escalation management, workflow optimization, and clinical consultation.
- Provide leadership oversight for strategic account support and customer satisfaction initiatives.
- Serve as a senior clinical subject matter expert and trusted advisor during executive customer engagements, laboratory operational reviews, and strategic sales opportunities.
- Partner with Sales and Technical Service teams to identify and mitigate customer risks affecting retention and expansion opportunities.
Education and Experience
- Associate or bachelor's degree required combined with CLS (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) or MLT (Medical Laboratory Technology) certification required.
- 8 years of experience in clinical microbiology, clinical molecular diagnostics, clinical laboratory operations, diagnostics, or healthcare solutions.
- 2 years of direct people leadership experience with demonstrated success in coaching and developing employees, conducting performance evaluations, managing accountability, and building high-performing teams in a dynamic environment.
Required Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of clinical laboratory workflows and diagnostic environments, with deep expertise in clinical diagnostics and a proven track record of optimizing laboratory operations, processes, and workflow efficiency.
- Demonstrated success managing complex customer implementations and cross-functional projects, with strong project management skills and a proven ability to drive initiatives from planning through execution while delivering successful customer and business outcomes.
- Proven ability to translate clinical and operational needs into effective business solutions while collaborating with and influencing internal and external stakeholders across multiple organizational levels, driving alignment and achieving results in a highly matrixed environment through strong partnership and leadership without direct authority, with a strategic mindset that balances customer outcomes and business objectives.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively engage audiences from laboratory personnel to executive leadership.
- Maintain an active presence in the field, supporting key customer engagements, strategic accounts, and critical business opportunities while partnering with commercial teams to provide clinical consultation and technical expertise throughout the customer journey.

$134,100.00 - $214,500.00 USD Annual
