About the role

The Senior Manager, Internal Communications leads the strategy and execution of content across divisional internal communications. They oversee a team of content creators and serve as the central editorial authority, ensuring all communications are clear, compelling, and aligned with business priorities and Vanguard standards. They partner closely with senior leaders and stakeholders to shape messaging, elevate storytelling, and drive consistent, high-impact communications.

Responsibilities

- Lead & Develop Content Organization: Manage and develop a team of writers and content creators; establish a high-performing culture with a strong focus on writing excellence, coaching, and continuous skill development. - Editorial Leadership & Standards: Serve as the lead editor across all communications; set and enforce editorial standards for quality, clarity, voice, and consistency. Provide hands-on editing and direction to ensure content meets a high bar. - Strategic Messaging & Storytelling: Translate complex business strategies into clear, cohesive narratives that resonate with diverse audiences. Shape enterprise and divisional storytelling across key initiatives. - Stakeholder Leadership & Influence: Serve as a senior advisor to leaders and partners; proactively shape communications approaches and messaging. Manage a broad set of stakeholders, aligning priorities and navigating competing demands with confidence. - Content Strategy & Planning: Oversee content planning and prioritization to ensure alignment with business goals and audience needs. Drive a cohesive, integrated approach across channels and formats. - Execution Excellence: Ensure delivery of high-quality content across written, visual, and multimedia formats. Maintain consistency and effectiveness across all communications touchpoints. - Continuous Improvement: Use feedback, data, and industry best practices to elevate content quality and team effectiveness. Strengthen editorial processes and workflows to improve efficiency and impact.

Qualifications

- Eight years related work experience, five years consulting and delivering internal communications experience preferred. Supervisory experience preferred. - Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred. - Demonstrated experience managing content teams and developing writing talent. - Exceptional writing, editing, and editorial judgment with a proven ability to maintain high standards at scale. - Strong experience advising senior leaders and managing complex stakeholder environments. - Ability to translate business strategy into clear, compelling communications.
