About the role

The Indirect Tax Manager will play a critical role in WPP’s wide-ranging transformation program. This position has substantial growth potential, with responsibilities evolving from preparation of tax filings to a risk and compliance focus as filing preparation transitions to our India Shared Service Center (SSC). The role is ideal for an experienced tax professional who enjoys detail-oriented work while contributing to the organization’s strategic vision and building new capabilities.

This individual manages the tax requirements of various WPP agencies serviced by the North American SSC, coordinating data for monthly, quarterly, and annual filings, as well as local tax obligations. The role involves handling tax entries such as Sales & Use tax and B&O tax, collaborating across functions to address tax implications for P.O.s and invoices, and leading internal control improvements for tax-related processes. The Indirect Tax Manager will also train and oversee a team of tax accountants in India, ensuring the quality, timeliness, and compliance of their work.

Responsibilities

• Work with the offshore team to ensure timely and complete tax reporting for all areas of responsibility, including local sales & use tax requirements.
• Coordinate and complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tax entries related to Sales & Use tax, B&O tax, property tax, and other applicable taxes.
• Prepare and submit tax filings and required payments in accordance with local and country-specific tax timelines.
• Streamline and optimize tax accounting and compliance processes using the Thompson Reuters ONESOURCE Tax Engine.
• Establish and maintain relationships with business stakeholders to address tax consequences and planning opportunities.
• Communicate tax recommendations to relevant departments and implement planning ideas as needed.
• Collaborate across functions within the Shared Service Centers locally and globally.
• Perform tax research related to implications of SaaS contracts and other vendor agreements.
• Effectively communicate tax issues with senior management and WPP Tax, ensuring compliance with WPP group policies.
• Create and manage resale and exemption certificates as needed.
• Assist in designing and executing audit-ready tax controls and governance frameworks to mitigate risks.
• Lead tax planning and technology projects, providing timely advice to Finance, IT, and senior management stakeholders.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in public accounting with a focus on Indirect/Sales & Use Tax.
• Experience implementing and/or utilizing a Tax Engine, preferably Thomson Reuters ONESOURCE.
• Excellent knowledge of accounting for journal entries related to indirect tax filings and accruals.
• Strong experience with local sales & use tax filings.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and transparent updates through multiple channels.
• Ability to build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders and manage them constructively.
• Excellent attention to detail, logical decision-making, and a hands-on approach.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills.

Pay

$60,000—$80,000 USD

Schedule

Hybrid approach with teams in the office around four days a week.
