Senior Manager Fluids Systems Engineering

About the role

This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. As the Manager of Fluids Systems Engineering, you will lead a team of Mechanical Engineers responsible for the design and integration of complex fluids systems. This role is accountable for the technical output, staffing, development, and performance of a small, high-impact team (typically 4-8 direct reports) delivering end-to-end engineering solutions.

You will design and develop ground fluids systems for a development program, overseeing the complete product life cycle from initial requirements through system commissioning, including design, manufacturing, test support, test data reviews, processing non-conforming hardware, and writing technical reports. The fluids sub-system hardware includes cryogenic storage & distribution systems, high-pressure storage & distribution pneumatic systems, and other related fluid systems required to operate a novel architecture. Some travel to our Launch Site One facility in West Texas will be required to support development, maintenance, and operations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of the Fluids Subsystem, including scope definition, subsystem priorities, and day-to-day activities of a team of dedicated engineers, designers, and analysts to create solutions to complex problems.
• Work with in-house and external production organizations to resolve challenges encountered during manufacturing or procurement of fluid systems.
• Collaborate with ground and MRO teams to resolve challenges encountered on fielded equipment to fabricate, install, activate, and operate systems.
• Ensure operations and maintenance activities are conducted consistent with design intent and defined requirements.
• Collaborate with a Project Manager to develop and integrate project schedules, analyzing and optimizing those schedules to meet program goals and deadlines.
• Coordinate resource support plans with production and engineering functional organizations.
• Collaborate with technical designers and configuration management to establish product structures and configuration management for the entire subsystem.
• Take ownership of dependencies, including engineering deadlines, supply chain, and internal manufacturing as necessary to support end-item delivery schedule.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a B.S. degree in engineering (electrical or computer desired).
• Domain expertise in ground fluids system architecture through design and development.
• Strong technical fundamentals.
• In-depth knowledge of industry standards including ASME B31.3, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), IEST-STD-CC1246, State and Federal regulations, and other aerospace fluids-related specifications.
• Proficiency with computer-aided design (CAD) tools.
• Experienced with project management toolsets and methods.
• 10+ years of industry experience in a related field.
• 5+ years of proven ability guiding and mentoring less experienced engineers.

Desired Qualifications

• M.S. in engineering or higher.
• PMP Certification or equivalent level of experience in project management.
• Experience with Creo (Pro/E) Wildfire 5 or greater, Windchill 10, or Team Center.
• Strong knowledge of entire avionics product/system from design, development, commissioning, and production.
• Familiarity with Earned Value Management System (EVMS).

Pay

Base Pay Range for WA applicants is $183,807.00 - $257,328.75. Other site ranges may differ.
