About the Role

The primary responsibility in this role is supporting the Strategy team’s mandate to provide timely, insightful, and actionable data-driven recommendations to drive JTV’s growth and profitability. This role is the critical link between complex retail data (sales, inventory, customer behavior, operations) and strategic business action. The ideal candidate will inform executive-level decision-making using data-driven insights, compelling data visualizations, and critical thinking to solve problems in partnership with planning, merchandising, marketing, and operations teams.

Although the position is in the Strategy department, the role requires cross-functional interaction with senior executives from Merchandising, Marketing, Finance, eCommerce, Broadcast Sales, Planning, Supply Chain, and IT. There is significant interaction with CxO leaders, and the business recommendations made will have a substantial impact on JTV’s overall direction.

Responsibilities

  • Identify growth and profit improvement opportunities by providing insightful analysis and compelling recommendations to senior management.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on key retail performance indicators (KPIs) such as sell-through, inventory turnover, margin, basket size, and customer lifetime value.
  • Lead root cause analysis on shifts in business performance (e.g., unexpected trends in category sales or channel performance), articulating the "why" and proposing solutions.
  • Conduct research and analysis on the external environment and provide competitive intelligence and insights.
  • Analyze data with an investigative mindset using a hypothesis-driven approach to identify opportunities for change.
  • Identify the key drivers of strategic initiatives and develop presentations shared with the executive team.
  • Actively participate in strategic planning, translating business questions into analytical frameworks and translating analytical findings into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Mine corporate data related to customers, merchandising categories, capital productivity, marketing, and overall operational performance.
  • Assist in developing business cases for strategic initiatives and financial modeling related to investment payoff, reviewed in executive committee meetings.
  • Conduct ad hoc and pro forma/"what if" analyses in support of potential decisions.
  • Guide the development of advanced analytical models (e.g., multivariate regression, forecasting and time series, lifetime value) to support business outcomes and strategic initiatives.
  • Guide ongoing reporting and measurement processes (e.g., MMM, MTA) to enhance the quality and efficiency of future decision-making.
  • Partner with Data Engineering and IT teams to ensure the integrity, accuracy, and accessibility of data used in analysis.
  • Set up testing plans for pilots/tests in partnership with business units such as marketing and e-commerce teams, ensuring test outcomes are clearly understood and integrated into future strategy.
  • Use multivariate regression and other statistical techniques to measure impact on profitability/growth.
  • Develop a scorecard system to measure results against the key drivers of financial performance for specific strategy initiatives. Incorporate measurements from pilots/tests into the operating plan.
  • Present complex analytical findings to non-technical stakeholders in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner, structuring presentations and narratives that lead the audience from data point to business conclusion.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline (such as engineering, mathematics/statistics, or economics) from a top-tier educational institution.
  • 3-5 years of prior experience in Corporate Strategy or Corporate Finance (interchangeable with 2+ years at a top-tier strategy consulting firm).
  • Experience in the Retail industry preferred, but not required.

Skills

  • Structured & Logical Thinking: Ability to understand the implications of strategic analysis and make strong, well-supported recommendations.
