Senior Manager, Data Science - US Card (Partnerships Customer Management)
About the role
As a Data Science Leader at Capital One, you’ll head our Partnerships Customer Management Data Science team, applying advanced machine learning to build high-impact predictive models for our Partnership credit card portfolio. You’ll lead a team delivering models that predict credit risk, account usage, and portfolio financials, while partnering with cross-functional teams to create products customers love. This role combines deep technical expertise with strategic leadership to drive innovation at scale, using cutting-edge technologies to unlock opportunities that improve everyday financial lives.
Responsibilities
- Mentor and guide a team of specialists in delivering predictive models for credit risk, account usage, and portfolio financials.
- Own the team’s strategic roadmap and project management for end-to-end model development, ensuring alignment with key business stakeholders.
- Oversee the delivery of production-ready models with a focus on speed, sustainable impact, and a blend of traditional ML and AI-based development.
- Partner with business analysts, software engineers, and product managers to deliver customer-centric products.
- Leverage technologies like Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, and Spark to analyze large volumes of numeric and textual data.
- Build machine learning models through all phases of development: design, training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
- Translate complex technical work into tangible business goals using strong interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, one of the following degrees with an expectation of completion on or before the scheduled start date:
- A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field) plus 7 years of experience performing data analytics.
- A Master's Degree in a quantitative field or an MBA with a quantitative concentration plus 5 years of experience performing data analytics.
- A PhD in a quantitative field plus 2 years of experience performing data analytics.
- At least 2 years of experience leveraging open-source programming languages for large-scale data analysis.
- At least 2 years of experience working with machine learning.
- At least 2 years of experience utilizing relational databases.
Preferred Qualifications:
- PhD in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) plus 4 years of experience in model development.
- At least 1 year of experience working with AWS.
- At least 1 year of experience managing people.
- At least 5 years of experience in Python.
- At least 5 years of experience with machine learning models.

Pay
The annual salary ranges for this role are as follows (full-time positions only; part-time salaries will be prorated):
- Cambridge, MA: $229,900 - $262,400
- Chicago, IL: $209,000 - $238,500
- McLean, VA: $229,900 - $262,400
- New York, NY: $250,800 - $286,200
Candidates hired in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with their location. This role is also eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
