Senior Manager, Data Architecture & Solutions – Products & Platforms
About the role
Baker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm with a coast-to-coast and global presence in major U.S. regions and financial centers including New York, London, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Boston. The firm operates through an alternative practice structure: Baker Tilly US, LLP is a licensed independent CPA firm providing attest services; Baker Tilly Advisory Group, LP and its subsidiaries provide tax and business advisory services and are not licensed CPA firms. Both are independent members of Baker Tilly International, a worldwide network of 43,000 professionals across 141 territories with $5.2 billion in combined revenue.
The Senior Manager, Data Architecture & Solutions owns the data and solution architecture of btOS, the Baker Tilly Operating System that Products & Platforms runs for Managed Services. Reporting to the Principal, Products & Platforms, this senior individual contributor directs engineers, contractors, and partner resources on the initiatives they lead. btOS is a client-facing platform built from interchangeable engines — AI (Basis, Agent Studio, Phinite), data and BI (KNIME, Snowflake, MS Power, Solver), and the btIQ (Client Prism) insights product. Engines will change; the canonical client data model, integrations, and governance underneath them must not. This role designs and stewards that durable layer so every business line — Family Office, Real Estate, PEFS, HRS, and Technology & Compliance — can plug client systems into btOS, and so engine swaps are invisible to clients. The Senior Manager turns business-line and client needs into reference architectures, data models, integration patterns, and working solutions, then carries them through Build / Buy / Borrow decisions, enterprise intake, pilot, and sustained adoption. The role also joins client pursuits and solution discussions where data, automation, and AI are part of the Managed Services value proposition. Success requires hands-on architecture credibility, business acumen, and the ability to keep several initiatives moving in a fast-paced consulting environment with incomplete information.
Responsibilities
btOS Data & Solution Architecture
- Own the btOS reference architecture: the canonical client data model, integration patterns, and standards that let AI, data, and BI engines be swapped without disrupting clients.
- Design how client source systems (ERP, general ledger, property management, fund accounting, payroll/HRIS, ticketing) flow into Snowflake, KNIME, and MS Power, and out to Solver, Basis, Agent Studio, Phinite, and btIQ (Client Prism).
- Define data governance, quality, lineage, and access standards for btOS, aligned to firm Data Governance, GRC, and Security requirements.
- Maintain the btOS technology inventory and future-state map (Solver, Arch, Phinite, btIQ, SumIt) and the dependencies between engines, business lines, and client cohorts.
Solution Design & Delivery
- Translate business-line and client requirements into architectures, data models, workflows, and expected outcomes; write the solution design before the build starts.
- Lead solution build for prioritized initiatives, directing engineers, contractors, and partner resources through design, development, testing, and release.
- Build reusable components (connectors, data pipelines, reconciliation and control workflows, reporting models) so one business line's solution becomes every business line's capability.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership on data pipelines, automation, and analytics when initiatives need it.
Platform Stewardship, Intake & Sourcing
- Run technical evaluation for Build / Buy / Borrow decisions and prepare business cases for the Tech Committee.
- Carry platform requests through the enterprise intake path (MS Intake and Approval, TDIO submission, EasyVista, EA/ET/Data Gov/GRC/Risk review, Legal, Procurement, Finance) and represent Managed Services requirements in those reviews.
- Coordinate with data, automation, document-intelligence, and AI partners; assess vendors on integration fit, scalability, economics, and client value.
- Support the renewal and lifecycle calendar for btOS platforms with Application Support and Procurement.
Client Solutions & Growth
- Join client discovery sessions, workshops, pursuits, and deal reviews where data, automation, or AI shape the Managed Services solution.
- Design the client-facing btOS solution for a pursuit: data onboarding, integrations, dashboards, insight products, and the effort to run them.
- Support solution narratives, demonstrations, executive presentations, and pricing inputs with VAO and business-line leaders.
- Translate technical capability into clear business outcomes and client value.
Adoption & Value Realization
- Move solutions from PoC (with the MS AI Council) through TDIO enablement into sustained use across the client lifecycle: VAO scope and onboard, business-line recurring delivery, VAO optimize and re-platform.
- Work with business-line and delivery leaders on adoption, training, and integration into existing workflows.
- Define and track adoption, productivity, quality, client-outcome, and financial measures for each initiative; report to Products & Platforms and MSLT which initiatives are creating value.
- Identify adoption barriers and coordinate the teams needed to remove them.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Governance
- Serve as the technical connector between Managed Services business lines and TDIO, Enterprise Architecture, Data Governance, Innovation, and the AI solutioning group.
- Influence across teams without direct reporting relationships; escalate decisions, risks, and dependencies to the Principal, Products & Platforms and the Tech Committee.
- Build human review, controls, and escalation into AI-enabled and automated workflows at design time, not after implementation.
- Work with Risk, Legal, and Security so btOS solutions operate within firm standards.
Qualifications
- 8 years in consulting, professional services, managed services, financial services, or technology, with at least 4 years designing and delivering data or analytics solutions.
- Hands-on experience architecting data platforms: cloud data warehouses (Snowflake preferred), ETL/ELT and workflow tools (KNIME, Alteryx or equivalent), SQL, and the Microsoft Power stack (Power BI, Power Automate, Power Query).
- Experience integrating enterprise systems such as ERP and general ledger, property or fund accounting, payroll/HRIS, CRM, or ticketing platforms into a shared data layer.
- Track record moving solutions from concept through development, deployment, and sustained adoption, including audit-ready controls, reconciliation, and exception reporting.
- Experience directing engineers, contractors, or partner resources without direct line authority.
- Strong business acumen; able to tie an architecture decision to a business outcome, a cost, and a measurable value.
- Strong client-facing communication and presentation skills; comfortable in pursuits, workshops, and executive reviews.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams with changing priorities and incomplete information.
- Strong influencing and relationship skills across senior business and technology stakeholders.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in data science, analytics, computer science, or a related field preferred.
Preferred qualifications
- Working knowledge of generative AI, large language models, RAG, APIs, AI agents and agentic workflows, and how they consume a governed data layer.
- Intelligent document processing, automation, or workflow platforms in a finance, accounting, HR, or payroll context.
- Finance and accounting, family office, real estate, private equity, or fund administration processes and the systems behind them (for example Yardi, Investran, Dynamics, NetSuite, Sage).
- Managed services, shared services, business process operations, or other recurring-delivery environments where solutions must run every period, not once.
- Enterprise technology vendor and alliance relationships; evaluating partners, investments, or acquisitions.
- Corporate performance management and financial planning tools (Solver or similar) and BI platforms.
- Familiarity with data governance, lineage, and security frameworks in a professional-services or regulated setting.
What success looks like
Success is not measured by the number of pilots launched or platforms bought. Success is measured by whether btOS has a data and solution architecture that every Managed Services business line can build on: client data onboards once and serves every engine, engines can be swapped without client disruption, and solutions built for one business line are reused by the others. Within the first year the Senior Manager has published the btOS reference architecture and data model, carried at least one business-line platform through intake to production, moved a PoC into sustained use with measured adoption and value, and become the technical voice Products & Platforms brings into client pursuits.
