Senior Manager, Business Incentives Group
About the role
A Tax Senior Manager, Business Incentives Group (BIG) is responsible for helping clients identify, document, and support tax positions related to their BIG tax credits and deductions. This role involves marketing and business development, process improvement, and maintaining client relationships. The Senior Manager also acts as a source of guidance to team members.
Responsibilities
- Tax Specialization: Maintains and develops an in-depth understanding of BIG tax benefits, identifies client opportunities, and develops solutions to maximize tax benefits.
- Tax Controversy: Represents clients before tax authorities, responds to inquiries from tax authorities, and identifies process improvements.
- Research: Identifies complex situations requiring research, confirms facts, and prepares detailed reports.
- Tax Compliance: Ensures clients comply with applicable authorities, identifies options for minimizing tax burdens, and communicates with relevant teams.
- Strategy Development: Develops new or improved ideas and strategies to advance client positions, suggests marketing approaches, and acts as a career advisor.
- Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises and reviews work of managers, associates, interns, evaluates performance, and delivers performance feedback.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree, required; degree in accounting, tax, or finance preferred.
- Seven (7) or more years of prior experience, required; six (6) or more years’ experience in BIG tax consulting, required.
- Prior experience supervising tax consulting professionals, required.
- Prior experience preparing and/or reviewing tax provisions, preferred.
- Prior experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships, preferred.
- CPA, preferred.
- Software proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word.
- Experience with tax-related software and research databases such as Caseware, GoSystems, and other comparable programs.

- Knowledge, skills, and abilities in the BIG tax area commensurate with the level of experience required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Solid organizational skills, especially ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details.
- Ability to effectively manage a team of tax professionals and delegate work assignments as needed.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with firm and client personnel and the ability to successfully interact with professionals at all levels.
- Proven ability to work in a deadline-driven environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary contact on assigned engagements.
Skills
- Microsoft Office proficiency, especially Excel and Word.
- Experience with tax-related software and research databases.
- Understanding of industry and firm FAS 109 and FIN48 standards.
- Ability to conduct thorough research and prepare detailed reports.
- Strong analytical and research skills.
- Effective presentation skills for marketing and sales opportunities.
- Ability to develop and implement process improvements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and colleagues.
