About the Role

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is seeking a Senior Manager of Engineering to play a pivotal role in building a critical Oracle Cloud Service. This position involves developing short, medium, and long-term plans to achieve strategic objectives, collaborating with senior engineering management or executives, and influencing decisions in sensitive situations. Strong leadership, communication, and multitasking skills are essential.

The role will oversee the development, design, global operations, planning, forecasting, and execution of a critical Cloud Service within the OCI Data & AI services group.

Responsibilities

  • Set the technical direction for architectural decisions in collaboration with other senior technical resources.
  • Develop strategic plans to accomplish technical and business objectives in partnership with leaders across Oracle business groups and customers.
  • Drive innovation through the advancement of OCI data services.
  • Manage multiple software engineering teams, ensuring measurable reliability, security, and performance outcomes.
  • Build high-performing, geographically distributed engineering teams through hiring and coaching.
  • Establish and implement engineering strategies aligned with applicable standards and regulatory practices.
  • Lead teams in designing, testing, and optimizing software solutions while ensuring alignment with requirements.
  • Manage the execution of processes to develop and guide new software features and enhancements, ensuring accessibility and documentation.
  • Conduct code and functional reviews to drive improvements across projects.
  • Debug and troubleshoot software issues across multiple components or functional areas.
  • Guide teams in implementing software testing, quality assurance, error logging, monitoring, and observability for effective debugging.
  • Conduct performance profiling and optimization of coding.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to API functionality and integration.
  • Implement API versioning, lifecycle, and interoperability strategies.
  • Design and develop software, systems, and services while providing technical guidance on architectural decisions and best practices.
  • Conduct periodic architectural reviews to ensure adherence to frameworks and internal development standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align software architecture with business and customer goals.
  • Implement performance optimization and scalability strategies in software design.
  • Conduct regular technology research and evaluation for architectural enhancements.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, external clients, and partners to understand customer issues and align solutions.
  • Provide technical guidance and prioritize support for customer-reported issues.
  • Advocate for customers' interests and suggest product enhancements based on feedback.
  • Develop, modify, and execute policies to ensure customer satisfaction through timely issue resolution and effective communication.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot complex product maintenance issues to ensure customer agreement on solutions.
  • Establish, follow, and enforce security criteria, development best practices, and coding standards in collaboration with teams and stakeholders.
  • Ensure clarity of operational objectives for adherence to broad acceptance criteria.
  • Implement secure software development practices to prevent security vulnerabilities.
  • Lead teams in performing periodic maintenance, testing, and upgrades for systems requiring patching (e.g., critical vulnerabilities).
  • Delegate assignments to implement and evolve standard operating procedures (SOP) for development, automation, testing, and debugging.
  • Manage multiple medium- to large-scale projects or initiatives, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and budgets are met.
  • Provide direction on project work, setting priorities, and aligning with business needs.
  • Guide teams in adjusting plans to accommodate resource or timeline changes.
  • Drive cross-functional partnerships to align expectations and shared objectives across teams.
  • Coach team members to develop strategic relationships with business leaders, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Promote inclusivity by actively seeking and listening to diverse perspectives.
  • Provide direction on addressing complex operational or technical issues and analyzing data to identify solutions.
  • Review and provide insights into unresolved or critical issues.
  • Engage in continuous learning to deepen expertise and stay ahead of industry trends.
  • Leverage feedback to drive personal and team skill improvements.
  • Identify skill gaps and empower team members to pursue learning and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
  • Collaborate on and implement ideas to increase efficiency and effectiveness of processes, protocols, and workflows.
  • Guide teams in adopting new approaches and methods while encouraging feedback for improvement.
  • Drive performance across teams by providing feedback and coaching aligned with performance management processes.
  • Discuss development goals with team members and facilitate career development opportunities.
  • Develop and manage the talent acquisition pipeline, including leading candidate interviews and monitoring promotion eligibility.

Qualifications

Certain U.S.-based or U.S. customer/client-facing roles may require compliance with immunization, occupational health mandates, or drug testing.

Pay

Hiring range in the U.S.: $118,300 - $264,100 per year. Eligible for bonus, equity, and compensation deferral.
