About the role
The Senior Accounting Manager will be a dedicated resource to a large not-for-profit organization focused on public safety and crime reduction. Reporting to the CFO, the role involves managing a team of 7-8 members, overseeing financial operations, preparing financial reports, and supporting grant reporting requirements.
Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth day-to-day financial operations, including financial reporting and control, cash flow management, and timely completion of financial reports
- Provide monthly financial reports and guidance to managers, oversee monthly reporting efforts, and anticipate critical questions
- Lead the team in preparing/reviewing monthly close documentation, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
- Record/review journal entries for various transactions, manage new budgeting software, and prepare/adapt financial reports as needed
- Communicate with clients, vendors, donors, bankers, and stakeholders; assist with annual budget processes and compliance reports
- Support onsite financial and operational efficiencies, provide training, and develop more efficient processes
- Prepare/review annual financial audit workpapers, tax schedules, and coordinate with auditors and tax preparers
- Manage grant reporting requirements and track restricted assets for 501c3 and 501c4 organizations
- Assist with insurance renewals and software administration
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent
- 10-15 years of accounting experience with a focus on not-for-profit clients
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Meticulous attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work in a dynamic, high-energy environment
- Experience in financial management within a not-for-profit organization
- At least 5-7 years of supervisory experience leading a team of 5 or more
- CPA or other professional designations preferred
- Experience with Section 527 political organizations, Sage Intacct, Concur, QuickBase, Martus, and tax preparation
