Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs a broad range of skilled trades including carpentry, painting, masonry, metal work, tiling and related tasks.
  • Participates in the maintenance and repair of buildings, structural components, doors, door frames, windows, floors, ceilings, walls, and roofs.
  • Identifies problems, determines solutions and/or repair needs and performs necessary work.
  • Repairs furniture and bleachers and installs partitions, shelves, doors, windows, floors, ceilings and walls.
  • Installs sheetrock and paneling, plaster walls and finishes concrete.
  • Updates buildings for new tenants.
  • Assists with providing cost estimates for repairs, installations, maintenance and other trades as helper.
  • Completes office moves and/or transport furniture to department offices.
  • Orders and transports materials and supplies.
  • Installs and repairs rain gutters and roofs.
  • Removes and hauls trash, moves furniture and equipment.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • General knowledge of the methods, materials, equipment, tools, terminology and safety precautions of building maintenance trades.
  • General knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building materials.
  • Skilled in the operation of various tools and equipment used in the trade.
  • Ability to work from sketches, drawings, plans or specifications.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and maintain records.
  • Ability to estimate needed materials and time required for various jobs.
  • Ability to rig scaffolds.

Physical Demands

  • Performs medium work that involves walking, standing, stooping, jumping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis and 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen: Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. Extreme noise levels; Animals/wildlife; Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors; Traffic; Moving machinery.

Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment)

  • Involves routine and frequent exposure to: Bright/dim light; Dusts and pollen: Extreme heat and/or cold; Wet or humid conditions. Extreme noise levels; Animals/wildlife; Vibration; Fumes and/or noxious odors; Traffic; Moving machinery.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • PREFER: Prefer a CDL class B Driver’s License.
