Qualifications And Requirements
- Graduation from High School or Vocational School or possession of an approved High School Equivalent Certificate.
- One (1) year of experience in maintenance work involving a variety of tasks.
- Driver's license valid in New Jersey may be required if the operation of a vehicle is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position.
- May be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated.
Basic Functions And Responsibilities
- Erects simple forms, mixes cement and aggregates, pours, and does the finishing work involved in concrete structures.
- Patches and repairs brick and concrete structures.
- Repairs damaged plastered walls and ceilings.
- Installs and repairs locks and fixtures, spackles and paints interior and exterior metal, wood, and masonry surfaces.
- Repairs and constructs simple wooden structures.
- Repairs plumbing stoppages and leaks in copper, iron, and other pipe.
- Replaces washers and gaskets, and makes general service repairs.
- Does general sheet metal work involved in repairing roofs, drain boards, and rainspouts.
- Changes lubricants, refuels, and does light maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
- Cleans tools and equipment.
- Works from instructions or work orders.
- Inspects completed work and may take the lead over a small maintenance unit.
- Keeps essential records and files.
- Learns to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
Knowledge And Abilities
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices and of occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in performing general maintenance and repair work.
- Ability to understand, remember, and carry out verbal and written directions.
- Ability to take precautions in performing the work.
- Ability to obtain, store, safeguard, distribute, and properly use equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Ability to maintain essential records and files.
- Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and computerized information systems used by the agency, office, or related units.
- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

Salary, Employment Period, and Union Affiliation
Salary Range: $52,983 - $55,076*
Employment Period: Twelve (12) months
