Job Summary
The Systems Engineering team at Waymo is seeking a skilled ML model developer to lead the development of safety-critical driving behaviors. This role involves designing experiments, assessing results, and integrating and deploying models on a fleet-wide scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead ML model development end-to-end for safety critical driving behaviors
- Evaluate and enhance the performance, safety, and scalability of the Waymo Driver
- Find new ways to gather required data for improving models and improving data quality
- Communicate benefits and limitations of new models and metrics to partner teams
- Operate on both tactical and strategic timescales
Requirements
- 5+ years ML modeling experience in production environments at large scale
- Solid understanding of physics, geometry, and dynamics
- Proficiency in C++ and Python
- Ability to learn and utilize new frameworks quickly, employing AI tools or otherwise
- Prior experience working with ML models for autonomous systems
- Proficiency in SQL
Preferred
- Experience working with ML models for autonomous systems

Qualifications
- Experience with ML model development for safety-critical driving behaviors
- Strong understanding of physics, geometry, and dynamics
- Expertise in C++ and Python
- Ability to quickly learn and utilize new AI tools

Benefits
The role offers a competitive salary range of $213,000—$263,000 USD, a discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentives, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Pay
The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed above. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
Schedule
This role follows a hybrid work schedule.
