Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI)

About the role

Fiserv is a global leader in fintech and payments, connecting financial institutions, corporations, merchants, and consumers millions of times daily. As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer (AI), you'll build production machine learning software that powers real-time decisioning across payments and financial services. Your work will involve architecting, designing, and implementing scalable ML models and real-time inference services, collaborating with data scientists and product engineers, and deploying and operating ML applications in cloud environments.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, and implement scalable ML models and real-time inference services for high-throughput, low-latency decisioning.
• Build and optimize data ingestion and feature pipelines using Kafka, Airflow, and Spark to enable consistent, high-quality feature extraction.
• Collaborate with data scientists and product engineers to translate complex business requirements into technical specifications and deployable ML solutions.
• Conduct structured experimentation using frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, selecting approaches that balance accuracy, explainability, and production constraints.
• Deploy and operate ML applications using Docker and Kubernetes in cloud environments, including release automation, monitoring, and ongoing optimization.

Requirements

• 9+ years of experience in machine learning and data science.
• 9+ years of experience deploying AI solutions in cloud environments.
• 7+ years of experience driving large-scale projects in a matrixed environment (project management and/or consulting).
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science, or a related field.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in the financial services industry.
• 7+ years of proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala, including hands-on use of ML libraries (TensorFlow, Keras, Scikit-learn).
• 6+ years of experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).

Skills

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
• Knowledge of deep learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch).
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and their implementation.
• Experience with data warehousing and ETL processes.

Pay

Salary range for this role is $120,000 - $180,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.

Schedule

The role is full-time and based in our corporate headquarters in Lake Forest, IL.
