About the role
The role is part of the In-Space Systems business unit, focusing on space infrastructure and increasing mobility on-orbit. Specifically, it supports Blue Ring, a high-powered hybrid solar electric and chemical-propelled spacecraft designed for maneuverability, versatility, and cost-effectiveness.
Responsibilities
- Primary and secondary structure loads development for spacecraft and mission payloads
- Communicate with structural or design counterparts to convey loads and environment data or implications on design and analysis
- Share experience and knowledge across programs for capability development and mentoring
- Finite Element Model development and correlation to test data
- Modeling, simulation, and verification of applicable spacecraft and engine ground and flight regimes
- Support configuration development, trade studies, development of load and environments (vibration/shock) requirements and verification
- Ground and flight test dynamic data measurement and interpretation
- Develop and/or maintain loads data book products
Requirements
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical, aerospace, or civil engineering
- 8+ years of relevant engineering experience
- Ability to solve a variety of static and dynamic structural problems using physics-based analytical methods
- Experience with vibroacoustic analysis
- Finite Element Modeling experience
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with experience in coordinating small to medium-sized teams
Qualifications
- Passion for our mission and vision is required
- U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Skills
- Spacecraft & launch vehicle loads experience
- Experience with commercial software tools such as HYPERMESH, ANSYS, NASTRAN DMAP, ATA’s iMAT (MATLAB Toolbox), PYTHON, FORTRAN, WAVE6, SEA+, LSDYNA, ADAMS
- Experience with time domain, frequency domain, and/or random vibration statistical analysis
- Experience developing custom analysis tools and processes
- Experience with fatigue analysis and development
- Experience with dynamic (modal) testing and correlation of structures
- Experience with instrumentation for ground and flight tests
- Experience with mathematical modeling, simulation, and control algorithms
- Experience with multi-body dynamic analysis
- Experience with high performance computing, management of large sets of data
- Active Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) security clearance
