Senior Life Underwriter
About the role
We believe life insurance innovation must happen in the context of sound underwriting decisions. The Senior Underwriter will collaborate with our internal and external case underwriters to ensure quality risk assessments are made while helping users have the most delightful experience possible.
This is a remote role based in one of the 23 States Ladder is currently hiring in: AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, KS, MA, MD, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX, VA, WA, WI. Ladder is not currently sponsoring or transferring OPT or H1-B visas.
Responsibilities
- Perform line underwriting on individual term life cases, evaluating medical and personal history on applications up to $8 million face amount
- Analyze medical, non-medical, and financial data to make solid, well-documented risk decisions
- Manage varying volumes of application review within set quality standards and turnaround times
- Collaborate with our external underwriters and continue to build the strength of that relationship
- Work closely with the Customer Operations and Compliance teams to answer underwriting-related questions and share underwriting knowledge
- Report to the Underwriting Director
Requirements
- 5+ years of life insurance underwriting experience at a leading carrier or reinsurer
- Demonstrated interest in being part of a collaborative team to better serve end users
- An experienced line underwriter with sound, consistent judgment on individual term life cases
- Able to adapt to the underwriting philosophy of an innovative environment
- A team player who wants to apply their life insurance underwriting expertise to help drive Ladder’s success
- An optimist, committed to continuous learning, iteration, and user-centered everything
- A great communicator who listens well, asks questions, and has a sense of humor

Pay
Base pay is determined by the location where the work will be performed and is aligned to one of 3 compensation tiers:
- Tier 1 (SF Bay Area, New York City, Seattle): $100,000.00 - $117,600.00
- Tier 2 (LA, Austin, Boston, Chicago, DC, Denver, Philadelphia, San Diego): $89,000.00 - $104,700.00
- Tier 3 (All other locations that Ladder hires): $84,000.00 - $98,800.00
In addition to the base pay range listed, this role is eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
