About the role

Einstein’s Office of Biotechnology and Business Development is seeking a Senior Licensing Associate to play a key role in the Office’s strategic and revenue-driving operations. This position focuses on increasing Einstein's licensing and collaborative relationships with commercialization partners, including industry, entrepreneurs, and investors.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of life science, biotech, and healthcare technologies across the full lifecycle of technology management.
  • Identify novel intellectual property assets developed at Einstein, solicit new invention disclosures, and evaluate technologies for commercial potential.
  • Develop and execute commercial strategies, identify and assess licensees, and draft license terms (financial and non-financial).
  • Negotiate, execute, and manage license agreements, including equity-bearing licensing relationships and other high-value initiatives.
  • Participate in project managing activities related to Einstein’s 2030 Acceleration Fund.
  • Synthesize scientific/technical information of early-stage inventions to articulate their commercial potential and value proposition to partners.
  • Evaluate Einstein technologies for commercial, licensing, and economic development potential by combining knowledge of patent law, science/technology, and commercial development.
  • Source and evaluate potential commercial partners, including start-ups and investment opportunities.
  • Draft and negotiate agreements (e.g., license, options, revenue-sharing, inter-institutional, confidentiality, and collaboration).
  • Shepherd agreements through negotiation and execution, capturing discussions and intent in written agreements and communicating status updates to stakeholders.
  • Serve as lead negotiator in high-profile exclusive license agreements and agreements involving equity and shareholder rights.
  • Solicit and assess new inventions for intellectual property protection and commercialization.
  • Interact confidently with faculty, researchers, and clinicians to understand Einstein/Montefiore scientific assets across disciplines.
  • Promote Einstein faculty research interests and achievements to form new collaborative opportunities internally and externally.
  • Develop and execute innovative strategies for technology commercialization and actively market technologies to third parties.
  • Leverage and establish relationships with industry professionals to engage with the Office and provide critical feedback on Einstein IP assets.
  • Identify potential projects for internal investment and provide project management oversight to increase IP value and licensing interest.
  • Review and prepare office metrics on a quarterly basis for internal and external reports (e.g., AUTM).
  • Serve as a general business development resource, performing additional Office functions such as administrative support, program development, and awareness initiatives.
  • Collaborate, mentor, and train non-senior office members, including interns.
  • Prepare materials for external events and internal seminars, and represent the Office as needed.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree and 3–5 years of experience in academic and/or commercial biotech/pharma arenas. A Ph.D. is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in contract negotiations is required.
  • Strong knowledge of intellectual property law and a high-level understanding of biomedical research and technology transfer practices.
  • Experience with the drug development process, FDA regulations, medical mobile applications, or government sponsor obligations (Bayh-Dole) is a plus.
  • History of successful negotiations and execution of complex intellectual property deals, with ability to provide deal sheets.
  • Thorough understanding of corporate and securities agreements is preferred.

Pay

Minimum Salary Range: USD $120,000.00/Yr.
Maximum Salary Range: USD $135,000.00/Yr.
