Responsibilities

  • Provides guidance on employment laws and regulations and advises on employee relations issues like harassment claims, discrimination, disability accommodations, medical leaves, wage and hour issues, and terminations.
  • Drafts and revises employment-related agreements, templates, policies, and procedures, such as restrictive covenant agreements, consulting agreements, severance agreements, and handbooks.
  • Oversees and manages (either independently or with outside counsel) all aspects of employment counseling, litigation, administrative charges, and threats of claims.
  • Conducts and supervises internal investigations, including conducting document/factual collection and analysis, and conducting witness interviews.
  • Independently and proactively monitors and provides guidance on novel or complex employment law matters.
  • Builds partnerships with all levels of Human Resources (including Labor subject matter experts) to provide oversight, consistency, and legal guidance.
  • Analyzes data and trends to develop and implement strategies and tactics for risk evaluation and avoidance.
  • Affords in-house attorneys and company management on strategy and resolution of employment and labor matters.
  • Collaborates with outside counsel to efficiently manage all aspects of assigned matters, including staffing, counseling and litigation strategy, budgets, work product, discovery, and developing initiatives for reducing outside counsel spend.
  • Collaborates with the SVP and General Counsel on periodic reporting of employment litigation results, budgets, forecasts, exposure analysis, and litigation strategies, as well as evaluating expenses and reserves with the Company’s independent auditors, risk managers, and business unit leaders.

Qualifications

  • Experience in employment law and employee relations.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Ability to draft and revise employment-related agreements, templates, policies, and procedures.
  • Experience in managing employment counseling, litigation, and administrative charges.
  • Proven ability to conduct and supervise internal investigations.
  • Strong analytical skills to develop and implement strategies for risk evaluation and avoidance.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build partnerships with all levels of Human Resources.
  • Experience working with outside counsel to manage assigned matters.
  • Experience in collaborating with the SVP and General Counsel on periodic reporting and expense evaluations.
