About the role

Piper Companies is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to join a leading clinical research and life sciences organization in Raleigh, NC (Hybrid). The Senior Legal Counsel will serve as a trusted advisor to business leaders, providing strategic legal guidance across commercial contracting, compliance, corporate matters, privacy, and operational initiatives while supporting the organization's continued growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead the drafting, review, and negotiation of commercial agreements, including customer, vendor, consulting, confidentiality, and partnership contracts.
• Partner with Business Development, Clinical Operations, and other stakeholders to identify and mitigate legal and contractual risks.
• Provide legal counsel on commercial, employment, privacy, compliance, and corporate matters while balancing business objectives and risk management.
• Support regulatory matters, employment issues, disputes, investigations, and strategic business initiatives, including acquisitions and due diligence activities.
• Collaborate with global legal teams to enhance compliance programs, legal frameworks, and operational efficiencies.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) and admission to practice law in a relevant U.S. jurisdiction.
• 12+ years of legal experience in private practice, in-house counsel, or a combination of both.
• Prior experience in life sciences, CRO, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, or clinical research environments.
• Strong background in complex commercial contracting, contract negotiation, and risk management.
• Experience supporting multinational organizations and cross-border business operations.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving abilities with a practical, business-focused approach.

Pay

Salary range: $150,000 - $180,000 depending on experience.
