Senior Lecturer - Palaeobiology

About the role

The Senior Lecturer will contribute to high-quality research, teaching, and research student supervision in the field of palaeobiology, with a focus on understanding the behavior, ecology, and evolution of extinct species through the fossil record.

Responsibilities

• Conduct original and innovative research in palaeobiology and related disciplines, independently and collaboratively, and create a nationally recognized research track record.
• Publish in high-ranking journals, provide reports to funding bodies, and engage in public communication of research outcomes.
• Achieve peer recognition and establish research networks at the national level.
• Achieve research income from nationally competitive research grants (and/or research fellowships) and research end-users as a member or leader, at or above the level relevant to the discipline in leading universities.
• Establish and grow research groups, participate in major collaborations, and contribute to the commercialization of research outcomes.
• Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders including government, museums, industry, research centers, and universities.
• Mentor and guide students, groups, and colleagues; supervise HDRs to timely completion as primary supervisor; and contribute to HDR review panels.
• Apply a well-defined teaching philosophy and critically reflective practice to inspire student learning.
• Design, develop, and deliver high-quality learning activities, assessments, and feedback across undergraduate and postgraduate courses, using diverse approaches and digital platforms in alignment with UNSW policy.
• Lead and participate in School and University-level meetings, open days, and strategic planning.
• Align with and actively demonstrate the Code of Conduct and Values.
• Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.

Requirements

• A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
• Significant track record in research leadership with outcomes of high quality and high international impact with clear evidence of the desire and ability to continually achieve research excellence and deliver research leadership.
• Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
• Demonstrated leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession and industry.
• Excellent record of recruiting and supervising high-calibre students.
• Evidence of ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds and support student equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
• Evidence of teaching effectiveness and passion for educational excellence and fostering this in others.
• Evidence of highly developed interpersonal and organizational skills.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.

$155k - $178k plus 17% Superannuation and annual leave loading
