Senior Lecturer in Computational Immunology (Teaching & Research)

About the role
The Senior Lecturer (Level C) will conduct high-quality research focused on the application of computer sciences to immunology (e.g., protein folding, antigen discovery, antibody design, structure-guided vaccinology, or systems immunology data analysis) and contribute significantly to educational excellence in the School of Biomedical Sciences and Faculty of Medicine and Health.
You will drive an independent, high-impact research program, build national research recognition, and supervise higher degree research students. Additionally, you will deliver inspiring, evidence-based teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programs, with a focus on immunology in the context of infection and disease. The role involves collaborating across disciplines to strengthen research networks, attract competitive funding, and contribute to innovative curriculum design.
This is a full-time (35 hours per week), fixed-term contract until 31 December 2030, reporting to the Head of Department (nominally Pathology) with no direct reports.
Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality research in computational immunology, achieving outcomes of high impact and excellence.
- Drive an independent research program and build national research recognition.
- Supervise and develop higher degree research students.
- Deliver evidence-based teaching in immunology, infection, and disease at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Design and deliver courses using a range of pedagogical approaches.
- Collaborate across disciplines to strengthen research networks and attract competitive funding.
- Contribute to innovative curriculum design to enhance student learning and employability.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Immunology, or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Demonstrated track record in computational sciences research with high-quality, high-impact outcomes.
- Proven commitment to staying updated with developments in immunology, infection, and disease models.
- Experience in obtaining research income from nationally competitive grants, fellowships, or research end-users.
- Experience in recruiting and supervising high-caliber higher degree research students.
- Well-defined teaching philosophy and critically reflective teaching practice in immunology or related fields.
- Experience in teaching and learning design, course development, and delivery at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels.
- Ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines, and build effective relationships.
Pay
Remuneration package: $155,403–$178,290 base salary, plus 17% superannuation and leave loading.
