About the Role

We are seeking a Senior/Lead Workday Financials Technical Developer to join a large enterprise Finance technology organization. This is a highly technical, hands-on role requiring deep expertise in Workday Financial Management, Workday Extend, Integrations, APIs, and Financial Systems Architecture. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical development experience while also understanding Finance business processes, accounting structures, and financial transaction flows. This individual will serve as a technical leader responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and supporting complex Workday Financials solutions and integrations across a large enterprise environment. This is not a purely functional or advisory role. The selected candidate will remain hands-on throughout the full development lifecycle while providing technical leadership and mentorship to other developers.

Responsibilities

Workday Integrations & Development

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support complex Workday integrations utilizing:
  • Workday Studio
  • Workday Orchestrate
  • Enterprise Interface Builder (EIB)
  • Core Connectors
  • Cloud Connectors
• Develop and maintain custom applications and extensions using Workday Extend.
• Design and implement API-driven integrations leveraging Workday REST and SOAP web services.
• Build inbound and outbound integrations between Workday Financials and:
  • Banking platforms
  • Procurement systems
  • Expense management applications
  • ERP platforms
  • Third-party financial systems
• Develop and maintain XML, JSON, and XSLT transformations.
• Create and support calculated fields, integration mappings, and custom reports.
• Troubleshoot integration failures, data issues, API errors, and performance bottlenecks.
• Implement monitoring, exception handling, reconciliation, and recovery mechanisms for critical financial integrations.
• Ensure compliance with Workday security models, authentication standards, and integration security requirements.

Workday Financials Support

• Provide technical and techno-functional expertise across:
  • General Ledger (GL)
  • Expenses
  • Source-to-Pay (S2P)
  • Procurement
  • Supplier Accounts
  • Financial Accounting & Posting Integrations
• Align integrations and Workday Extend solutions with accounting processes, transaction flows, and Workday Financials data structures.
• Build and support financial transaction and accounting posting integrations.
• Troubleshoot Workday Financials transaction processing, integration events, and reconciliation issues.
• Partner with Finance, Accounting, Procurement, and IT teams to gather requirements and deliver technical solutions.
• Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial processing activities when required.

Technical Leadership

• Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for Workday Financials development and integration initiatives.
• Own end-to-end solution design while remaining actively involved in development and support activities.
• Review code, technical designs, integration architecture, and data mappings.
• Establish development standards, reusable frameworks, and best practices.
• Mentor junior and mid-level Workday developers.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, business analysts, and functional consultants.
• Identify opportunities to improve automation, performance, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
• Evaluate new Workday capabilities and recommend solutions that enhance Finance operations.

Production Support & SDLC

• Participate in all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC):
  • Requirements Gathering

• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production incidents involving Workday Financials integrations and custom applications.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective solutions.
• Maintain technical documentation, integration specifications, support procedures, and runbooks.
• Support Workday releases, regression testing, and feature enhancements.
• Coordinate with Workday Support and third-party vendors as needed.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on Workday technical development experience.
• Strong experience developing custom applications using Workday Extend.
• Advanced integration development experience with:
  • Workday Studio
  • Workday Orchestrate
  • EIB
  • Core Connectors
  • Cloud Connectors
• Extensive experience developing and consuming Workday REST and SOAP APIs.
• Strong Workday Financial Management experience supporting:
  • General Ledger
  • Expenses
  • Source-to-Pay
• Solid understanding of accounting principles, finance transaction flows, and Workday Financials data models.
• Strong technical expertise in XML, JSON, and XSLT.
• Experience integrating Workday Financials with banking, procurement, ERP, and third-party financial systems.
• Proven experience troubleshooting complex integrations and production support issues.
• Ability to independently lead technical design, development, deployment, and support efforts.
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise Finance environments.
• Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work onsite four days per week in Columbus, OH, Dallas, TX, or Greater Minneapolis, MN.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience developing BIRT reports, financial documents, invoices, checks, or other Workday-generated outputs.

• Previous experience leading Workday development teams or integration initiatives.
• Strong background supporting banking, payments, procurement, and accounting integrations.
