Senior Java Software Engineer

Location: Charlotte, NC — Candidates must be physically located in Charlotte and able to work from the office 3 days per week. Hybrid work model.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Software Engineer with strong hands-on expertise in Java, React 18, JavaScript, REST APIs, and SQL Server to join a high-performing engineering team in Charlotte, NC. The ideal candidate will have experience building enterprise-scale applications across both backend and frontend technologies and will contribute to a greenfield platform initiative designed to consolidate multiple existing applications. This role requires strong technical skills, architectural thinking, collaboration, and the ability to deliver high-quality solutions within aggressive timelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable enterprise applications using Java and React 18.
• Build modern frontend applications using React 18, JavaScript, and related frameworks.
• Develop robust backend services and APIs using Java.
• Contribute to the development of a greenfield platform designed to consolidate multiple existing applications.
• Design, develop, and integrate RESTful APIs and backend services.
• Work with SQL Server for application data and database development.
• Participate throughout the software development lifecycle, including architecture, technical design, coding, testing, deployment, and production implementation.
• Collaborate closely with software engineers, technical leads, architects, product teams, and business stakeholders.
• Follow secure software development practices and ensure applications meet enterprise security standards.
• Troubleshoot and resolve application performance, functionality, integration, and production issues.
• Participate in code reviews and maintain high standards for code quality, scalability, performance, and maintainability.
• Leverage modern AI-assisted development tools, including GitHub Copilot, to improve engineering productivity where appropriate.
• Work effectively within a shared-resource model supporting multiple teams and managers.

Requirements

• 7–10 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience developing enterprise applications using Java.
• Strong hands-on experience with React, with specific experience in React 18 strongly preferred/required.
• Strong JavaScript development experience.
• Proven experience developing and consuming REST APIs.
• Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object-oriented programming, and application architecture.
• Experience working with SQL Server and relational databases.
• Experience with modern software development, testing, debugging, and deployment practices.
• Ability to read, understand, and work effectively with complex technical requirements and existing codebases.
• Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with aggressive delivery timelines.
• Must be physically located in Charlotte, NC and able to work onsite three days per week.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with GitHub Copilot or other AI-assisted coding and development tools.
• Experience working in agent-mode AI development environments.
• Experience building greenfield applications or modernizing legacy/vendor platforms.
• Experience working with enterprise-scale applications and APIs.
• Experience in environments with strong security, compliance, or regulatory requirements.
• Experience with cloud-based storage solutions, particularly Amazon S3.
• Previous experience working in large financial-services organizations or other highly regulated environments.
