Senior Java Engineer - Spring Boot / Cloud / Kafka
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity in Bentonville, AR. This role focuses on designing and developing highly scalable, cloud-native backend services within a large-scale distributed environment. Candidates must be currently authorized to work in the United States and available to work in Bentonville from day one. This is a W2 contract-to-hire role; C2C arrangements are not available.
About the role
Design and develop highly scalable backend applications and services using Java and Spring Boot in a large-scale distributed, cloud-native environment. Collaborate with engineering, product, data, and data science teams to build and support applications integrating with machine learning and data platforms.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop highly scalable backend applications and services using Java and Spring Boot
- Build and enhance cloud-native microservices in large-scale distributed environments
- Participate in system design, architecture, coding, testing, debugging, and production support
- Develop new services, systems, and product functionality
- Build and support Kafka-based pipelines and event-driven integrations
- Work with both SQL and NoSQL databases
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business and product requirements into technical solutions
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues and implement scalable long-term solutions
- Conduct code reviews and contribute to engineering standards and best practices
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to other engineers
- Ensure applications are reliable, scalable, maintainable, and delivered on time
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with strong backend Java development expertise
- Advanced hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Strong experience designing and developing microservices and distributed systems
- Experience with Kafka and cloud platforms such as Azure and/or GCP
- Strong database experience across SQL, NoSQL, and RDBMS technologies
- Experience with technologies such as Cassandra, Solr, Docker, and Kubernetes
- Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms
- Experience developing scalable APIs and cloud-native services
- Strong system design, coding, debugging, and problem-solving skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field preferred
Pay
$45 - 55 per hour
