Senior Java / Big Data Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Senior Java / Big Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in end-to-end Java application development, big data engineering, and performance optimization, with a proven ability to design and deliver scalable data-intensive solutions while guiding teams toward target architecture on strategic platforms.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain end-to-end Java applications supporting current and target processes.
• Partner with cross-functional Technology teams to implement target architecture and migrate workloads to strategic platforms.
• Build and optimize data pipelines for real-time, streaming, batch, and API-based ingestion.
• Load and manage large datasets in Hadoop and compute complex logic on Spark platforms.
• Conduct performance profiling and tuning for data-intensive applications, including memory optimization.
• Develop services and integrations using Spring, Spring Boot, JPA, and Hibernate.
• Build and enhance UI components using Java UI technologies such as HTML5, AngularJS, Backbone.js, and Bootstrap.
• Apply Agile practices to deliver high-quality software in iterative sprints.
• Mentor team members and contribute to engineering best practices.

Requirements

• 9+ years of hands-on Java application development experience end to end.
• Strong core Java skills including multi-threading, Collections API, JDBC, and use of Java profiling tools.
• Proficiency with Spring, Spring Boot, JPA, and Hibernate frameworks.
• Strong CS fundamentals in design, data structures, and algorithms.
• Expertise in performance tuning, profiling, and memory optimization for data-intensive applications.
• Expertise with SQL and NoSQL databases, including data integration and transformation tools.
• Strong knowledge of big data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Hive, or Flink.
• Experience discovering, ingesting, and incorporating new data sources across streaming, batch, and APIs.
• Skills to optimize data pipelines and queries for performance and scalability.
• Strong problem-solving abilities to resolve complex data engineering issues.
• Leadership and mentoring capabilities in team environments.
• Excellent communication skills.
• BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a quantitative discipline from a reputed university.
• Background in enterprise stress testing and knowledge of credit, operational, and market risk.
• Knowledge and experience with Hadoop or other big data distributed ecosystems.
• Knowledge of cloud or distributed computing.
• 5+ years of experience with Java UI technologies including HTML5, AngularJS, Backbone.js, and Bootstrap.
• Experience working in an Agile software development environment.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Apache Flink or advanced Spark streaming use cases.
• Exposure to cloud-based big data services and containerized deployments.

Pay

$96.92/hr (W2)
