Senior iOS Engineer, Media Experience

Reddit is a community of communities built on shared interests, passion, and trust, home to the most open and authentic conversations on the internet. The Media Experience team empowers users to discover, consume, and engage with the best media content on Reddit by making video consumption intuitive and engaging. Our goal is to ensure Reddit’s video experience is best-in-class, driving video views and video user growth through data, Quality of Experience (QoE) signals, and rapid product experimentation.

Responsibilities

• Drive the technical strategy for media engagement by leading iOS architecture for user-facing features that boost video discovery and consumption. Design and build immersive viewing surfaces and intuitive UI/UX flows to maximize watch time, user retention, and daily active video consumers.
• Champion an experiment-driven culture focused on user experience. Partner with senior management to foster rapid prototyping and A/B testing, balancing high execution velocity with the performance demands of a modern media application. Use design, performance signals, and retention data to measure success.
• Bridge the gap between core media and the user by collaborating with client media infra, backend, Feeds, and ML ranking teams. Translate platform capabilities—such as HLS streaming and personalized recommendations—into seamless, delightful front-end iOS features.
• Lead cross-functional execution as a strategic engineering partner to Product, Design, and Data Science. Shape the product roadmap to align ambitious growth goals with the technical realities and best practices of iOS development.
• Elevate iOS engineering standards by establishing best practices for integrating media components and managing complex media lifecycles. Ensure app stability and rendering performance, even on constrained devices or networks.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on iOS experience with a proven track record of developing user-facing iOS mobile native applications at scale using Swift.
• Experience as a strategic partner, not just a technologist. You’ve steered cross-team projects that solved tangible business problems (e.g., increasing watch time or DAU) and understand how code, product, and team dynamics influence each other.
• Deeply data-informed and logical. You integrate metrics into the design process and ensure architectural decisions are traceable to product and business outcomes. Fluent in experimentation, funnels, and QoE metrics.
• Comfortable with growth-team ambiguity. You navigate uncertainty confidently when the goal is clear but the path is not, prototyping fast and adapting based on data.
• Strong focus on clear, transparent communication. You distill complex technical trade-offs for any audience, from peers to executive stakeholders.
• Media product expertise. Hands-on experience optimizing video player performance or building feature-rich products on top of core media playback components (AVFoundation, VideoToolbox). Familiarity with HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) and integrating with recommendation/feed systems is a plus.

Pay

The base salary range for this position is $190,000—$267,000 USD. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for equity in the form of restricted stock units and may include commission, depending on the position.
