The hired associate must reside within 35 miles of Columbus, OH (One Nationwide Plaza).

About the role

This position is a hybrid role with a work schedule of 3 days in office and 2 days remote. This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization, and Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT extension program.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the sourcing, design, structuring, and execution of capital markets transactions, including term funding, securitizations, structured solutions, and flow agreements.
  • Translate enterprise objectives, asset/liability needs, and risk appetite into actionable funding and investment strategies.
  • Conduct due diligence, negotiate terms, and oversee documentation; partner with internal stakeholders to assess risk/return, liquidity, ALM, capital, and earnings impact.
  • Develop strategic reviews of partnerships and actionable plans to optimize portfolios and sourcing.
  • Maintain expertise in interest rate, credit, securitized, and funding markets.
  • Track industry changes and competitor activity to inform strategy.
  • Brief senior management on regulatory, accounting, and rating developments.
  • Build playbooks for structuring best practices and governance standards.
  • Implement CRM solutions and standardized KPI scorecards for sourcing partners.
  • Represent Capital Markets in internal forums and with external partners.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations explaining strategies, risks, and transaction economics.
  • Ensure compliance with investment guidelines, risk limits, and regulatory standards.
  • Work with risk and middle office partners to improve processes.
  • Mentor analysts and professionals, promoting technical and soft skill development.
  • Model Nationwide’s values and foster a collaborative culture.
  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required (finance, economics, mathematics, engineering, or related field). Advanced degree (MBA or related) and/or CFA preferred.
  • 10+ years in capital markets, investment banking, structured finance, or buy-side trading.
  • Proven success leading complex transactions involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Insurance, ALM, or balance-sheet experience preferred.
  • Deep fixed-income and structured products knowledge.
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate cross-functionally and externally.
  • High energy, ownership mindset, and resilience in dynamic markets.
  • Leadership skills, competencies, and experiences may take precedence.

Pay

The national salary range for this role is $153,000–$255,000. Placement within the range will be determined by skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope, complexity, and location of the role, as well as market labor costs.

Schedule

Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote. Occasional travel required.
