About the Role

Performs highly complex (senior-level) investigative work. Work primarily involves planning, coordinating, and conducting investigations of complaints filed with the agency to ensure statewide enforcement of agency statutes and rules. This position reports to a Lead Investigator and is assigned to the North Region team. This is a Statewide remote work from home (WFH) position. Must reside in Texas.

Responsibilities

• Analyzes assigned cases to develop an investigative plan and conducts complex investigations of suspected violations of agency statutes and rules.
• Completes investigations within assigned time frames.
• Provides training, mentoring, and ongoing guidance to less experienced investigators regarding agency statutes, rules, regulated industries, and investigative processes.
• Reviews the work of other investigators, provides constructive feedback, and exemplifies best practices.
• Conducts speaking presentations to industry groups about agency statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
• Performs special projects, including high-profile and highly complex cases, as directed by the Lead Investigator or Manager.
• Participates in internal and external committees as directed.
• Conducts in-person or telephone interviews of complainants, respondents, and witnesses; performs follow-up interviews to resolve inconsistencies or gaps in information.
• Secures and reviews documentary evidence, confirming authenticity and relevance with witnesses.
• Conducts criminal background and personal history investigations, reviews records, and verifies information.
• Performs Internet research to gather identity, location, ownership, and other background information about individuals, business entities, properties, and events.
• Travels to conduct on-site investigations, inspections, audits, and assists in sting operations and projects in primary or support roles.
• Analyzes witness statements, documents, and other evidence to ensure completeness of the investigation.
• Prepares detailed reports of investigations in the approved format and assists prosecutors in preparing cases for resolution.
• Testifies in administrative hearings at the State Office of Administrative Hearings (SOAH).
• Identifies indicators of trafficked persons and serves as a liaison with local law enforcement and other external entities.

Qualifications

• Experience conducting complex investigations, preferably in a regulatory or law enforcement environment.
• Knowledge of agency statutes, rules, and investigative processes.
• Ability to mentor and train less experienced investigators.
• Strong analytical skills to assess evidence and develop investigative plans.
• Excellent communication skills for interviewing, report writing, and presentations.
• Ability to work under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment.

Pay

$64,050.00 - $67,500.00 per year (Salary Group B20, FLSA Non-Exempt).
