About the role
This position is responsible for performing key operational functions to ensure the integrity and accuracy of data exchange from sources through the exchange to third-party destinations. Responsibilities include implementing and supporting data interfaces using standard methods such as HL7, CCD/C-CDA XML documents, FHIR, Secure FTP, APIs, and others, as well as managing ongoing operational activities for secure and reliable data exchange.
Responsibilities
- Implement new or modify existing data feeds from and to third parties using standard processes and approved technical methods.
- Coordinate activities of exchange partners and vendors involved in the implementation and support of data feeds.
- Provide level 2 support for in-bound and out-bound exchange data interfaces, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and clinical data validation to ensure MPI integrity and accurate patient data attachment.
- Coordinate support activities across exchange and vendor partners to resolve interface issues.
- Recommend creation or revision of operational workflow processes to meet operational, stakeholder, or user needs while complying with HEALTHeLINK policies and New York State regulations.
- Maintain accurate and current workflow process and standards documentation.
- Lead testing efforts to validate the functional operation of data interfaces.
- Ensure patient PHI data is handled securely and in compliance with policies and New York State regulations.
- Proactively investigate issues impacting data quality or interface performance and take ownership of operational/interface processes.
- Mentor, train, and provide guidance and support to department staff.
- Participate in projects and collaborate with other departments and team members as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Proficient in electronic data exchange mechanisms, including HL7 v2, CCD/C-CDA XML documents, FHIR, REST APIs, EDI, and other healthcare interoperability standards.
- Demonstrated ability to design and lead data interchange between healthcare systems.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to investigate and resolve issues with limited direction.
- Experience implementing, managing, and supporting system interfaces, preferably in a healthcare environment.
- Experience using SQL for data analysis, validation, and troubleshooting (preferred).
- Knowledge of standard healthcare terminology and HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to assess operational and user needs and design/document operational processes to meet them.
- Self-starter with the ability to consistently and reliably perform duties with limited supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office Software; strong Excel skills preferred.
- Ability to work independently under pressure to meet deadlines and company goals.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher preferred.
- 1 year of interface experience desired.
Physical Requirements
- Light physical effort in an office environment.
- Frequent computer use/data entry; repetitive motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
- Close visual acuity required for activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, and viewing a computer.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds (e.g., files, paper boxes) periodically.
- Primarily sedentary work with occasional bending and reaching.
