About the Department

VUMC IT provides hardware, software and service solutions for the entire Medical Center. With over 40,000 workstations in the Medical Center, our teams can assist not only with hardware support, but also software and application support and services to enhance security and protection of your information. Our professional administrative functions include critical supporting roles in information technology and informatics, finance, administration, legal and community affairs, human resources, communications and marketing, development, facilities, and many more.

Key Responsibilities

  • Trains new team members and provides input to employee performance evaluations.
  • Designs, develops, implements, and oversees information technology (IT) solutions including hardware and software.
  • Implements short- and long-term IT solutions that meet the needs of the organization.
  • Installs, configures, administers, upgrades, and maintains security for IT hardware, software, and network infrastructure.
  • Supports and provides input for information technology strategies, policies and plans, maintenance and use of information technology resources.
  • Supports customer requests for new equipment installations and departmental moves.
  • Trains and supports technology users.
  • Aids in operational processes and site acquisition and growth projects.

Technical Capabilities

Has successfully prepared and implemented a plan for changes in behavior and competency for self and others, demonstrating a determination for personal and professional advancement.
  • Planning and Organizing (Novice): Demonstrates ability to anticipate resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work within areas of direct responsibility. Achieves results within budget. Identifies relevant stakeholders and gains their commitment. Competently handles multiple assignments simultaneously. Reshapes project during life-cycle evolution, if needed. Demonstrates ability to break down work into manageable and measurable units. Accepts changes to assignments with minimal disruption and loss of productivity. Uses available time efficiently.
  • Resource Management (Novice): Sets priorities and balances project and assignment workload effectively and efficiently. Staffed a project team composed of people whose abilities are established. Demonstrates resourcefulness and creativity in accomplishing objectives with limited resources, budgets and/or time. Has developed needed skills on the project team when no other resources where available. Proficient in use of staffing tools and procedures such as job posting, career development, etc.

About the Role

This position supports the organization's technology infrastructure, customer service needs, and operational growth initiatives. The role is responsible for implementing and maintaining IT hardware, software, and network solutions, supporting equipment installations and departmental moves, training end users, and assisting with technology strategy and operational processes. The position also contributes to quality improvement, change management, and resource planning efforts, ensuring reliable technology services and continued support of organizational objectives.
