Senior Industrials Analyst
About the role
Alegr is seeking an experienced and intellectually curious Senior Industrials Analyst to support coverage of the Industrials sector for the firm’s U.S. Small and Mid Cap strategies. This role is well-suited for an analyst with meaningful buyside experience who is eager to deepen sector expertise, take on increasing responsibility, and contribute directly to investment performance in a collaborative, research-driven environment.
Responsibilities
Conduct deep fundamental research on small and mid-cap industrial companies, including financial statement analysis, valuation work, and competitive and industry analysis
Build, maintain, and update detailed financial and valuation models to support long and short investment theses
Perform primary research, including meetings with company management teams, industry experts, sell-side analysts, and other relevant contacts
Write clear, concise, and actionable internal research reports and investment memoranda
Support generation of differentiated long and short investment ideas aligned with Alger’s investment philosophy and risk framework
Participate in ongoing portfolio monitoring, including earnings analysis, news flow, and thesis updates for existing holdings
Utilize and develop internal quantitative tools and reports to identify potentially attractive industrial investment opportunities
Maintain and enhance proprietary databases tracking company fundamentals, industry metrics, and thematic trends
Work collaboratively with other sector analysts and investment professionals in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
Support a culture of intellectual rigor, accountability, and continuous improvement
Qualifications
Undergraduate degree required in finance, economics, engineering, mathematics, science, or a related field
MBA and/or CFA designation preferred but not required
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above required in a 4.0 scale
Minimum 5–6+ years of buyside experience required
Broad Industrials sector coverage experience required; specialization in any single subsector (e.g., capital goods, transportation, machinery, aerospace & defense, industrial services) not required
Strong familiarity with industrial business models, including secular growth drivers, capital intensity, end-market demand drivers, and cost structures, strongly preferred
Skills
Strong fundamental research capabilities, including financial statement analysis, valuation, and modeling
Strong fundamental research and analytical skills, including financial modeling, valuation, and industry analysis
Ability to operate as an Industrials generalist, effectively covering multiple subsectors, end markets, and business models within the industrials universe
Comfort evaluating a wide range of industrial companies, including considerations related to growth sustainability, capital intensity, cost structures, pricing power, operational leverage, and end-market demand dynamics
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate investment ideas
High level of self-motivation, intellectual curiosity, and disciplined work ethic
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple coverage responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Collaborative mindset with confidence to express independent views and challenge assumptions constructively
