Senior Industrial Design Engineer, Last Mile Engineering
About the role
Last Mile Engineering is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented Mechanical Engineer / Industrial Designer to lead automation and material handling equipment (MHE) initiatives of developing next generation, world-class Last Mile transportation building designs. In this role, you will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high-quality, cost-effective solutions for our delivery stations. Your projects will be a variety of delivery station concepts and template-based design solutions that will enhance the effectiveness of Amazon's last mile network. You will work with a team of highly skilled and highly engaged engineers in a fast-paced and often ambiguous environment. Ability to travel 40% to interact with internal and external business, operational and technical leaders.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimal automation/MHE equipment design solutions for the last mile network through equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations.
- Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors and stakeholders to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions in very short periods of time.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership for large-scale engineering projects, retrofits and building designs.
- Effective communication skills, ability to execute the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to make a compelling business case with senior executives.
- Ability to travel up to 40% to interact with internal and external business and technical leaders.
About the team
The AMZL Central Engineering organization designs, pilots and deploys Automation technologies within the AMZL network. The team owns the full life-cycle of the automation tech from concept to pilot to full scale deployment and continuous improvement post deployment.
Basic qualifications
- 5+ years of design & innovation, research & development work experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a foreign equivalent
- Experience with design & innovation and research & development
- Experience in management of engineering design projects
- Experience using business or technical software like MS Excel, MS Project, and CAD software
Preferred qualifications
- 5+ years of specialty (with progressive responsibility) experience
- Master's degree in Engineering (any domain), Operations, Business Administration, or a related field
- Knowledge of concepts like system architecture, optimization, system dynamics, system analysis, statistical analysis, reliability analysis, electronic system design, and decision making
- Experience with complex automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and systems and high-speed manufacturing
- Experience with design-in-safety
Pay
- USA, TN, Nashville: $125,500.00 - $169,800.00 USD annually
- USA, WA, Bellevue: $132,100.00 - $178,800.00 USD annually
