Senior HVAC & Refrigeration Technician

About the role

This role is unique in that it combines hands-on HVAC/R maintenance with system troubleshooting and diagnostics, all within predictable commercial kitchen environments. The position offers opportunities for growth into facilities or regional leadership roles, and provides independent problem-solving with a supportive network of engineers and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on commercial HVAC/R systems (WIC/R, RTUs, exhaust fans, hoods, make-up air units, DOAS systems)
• Diagnose and troubleshoot system issues across multiple sites
• Support refrigeration and kitchen ventilation systems
• Conduct site inspections to ensure equipment is operating safely and efficiently
• Handle basic electrical and plumbing maintenance as needed
• Cook with external vendors for specialized repairs and warranty work
• Use Building Management Systems (BMS) to monitor performance and diagnose issues
• Provide remote troubleshooting support to onsite teams and vendors
• Review reports (startup, testing, balancing) to verify system performance
• Assist with new facility openings by verifying installation and system functionality
• Identify issues early and coordinate corrective actions

Requirements

• 4+ years of commercial HVAC/R experience
• Experience working with rooftop units, ventilation systems, or refrigeration (WIC/F)
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between sites locally

Preferred

• HVAC Universal certification (EPA, trade school, or equivalent)
• Experience in restaurants, hospitality, or multi-site facilities
• Working knowledge of electrical and plumbing systems

Schedule

Field-based role across the Greater New York area. Local travel between sites (home daily) Monday–Friday schedule with on-call rotation and overtime opportunities.
