Internship

Part-time role based in Bradford, West Yorkshire: 22.5 hours per week (1 day in the office, 2 days working from home).

About the role

We are seeking an experienced HR professional to join a growing consultancy team. The role involves providing pragmatic, commercial, legally compliant, and solution-oriented HR advice and guidance to line managers within client businesses. You will coach line managers to address and resolve Employee Relations (ER) issues promptly, preserving manager-employee relationships and building competency and performance across client organisations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide HR advice and guidance online and by telephone to clients’ line managers across the full spectrum of ER issues, including dismissals, grievances/appeals, and other complex scenarios.
  • Escalate complex, risky, or sensitive cases to appropriate colleagues, whether in-house or within the client’s business.
  • Proactively and effectively manage ER cases, minimising key interventions such as suspensions and ensuring robust, timely progression of case management events.
  • Deliver HR advice in line with client-specific service level agreements and business rules.
  • Capture and track all advice provided using the in-house case management system.
  • Act as a mentor or escalation point for HR Advisers and HR Assistants, providing guidance on complex cases or taking over cases beyond their scope.
  • Coach in-house colleagues and client managers through people issues, including commercially sensitive situations and "difficult conversations."
  • Support occasional ad hoc projects, either in-house or to aid HR transformation within client businesses.

Requirements

  • Degree qualification in HR or a business-related subject, CIPD Level 5, or a Management/legal qualification.
  • Three or more years’ HR experience in an advisory role with significant exposure to complex ER issues.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment legislation and solid experience applying company policies and procedures.
  • Proficiency with telephony and computer systems, particularly Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, OneDrive, SharePoint).
  • Confidence communicating with managers and business owners at all levels, with a clear, engaging, coaching, and collaborative style.
  • Ability to engage with and influence a wide range of service users.
  • Committed team player driven to continuously improve and support colleagues.
  • Ability to work flexibly to deadlines and respond positively to feedback.

Schedule

  • One Saturday per month (with a day off in lieu during the week).
  • One bank holiday per year (excluding Christmas).
  • Flexible working hours available.

Pay

£35,000–£40,000 (full-time equivalent). The salary offered will be commensurate with experience.

Benefits
